Role Summary: 
This position serves a critical role towards product superiority with quality improvement and department goals focused. This role will train to be well versed in rice and rice technology and maintain existing electronic databases and quality systems. The individual will maintain the on-shift quality audit function, quality training, provide technical support to Shift Managers for quality and food safety issues and escalations.  The successful candidates will create and participate in projects to drive continuous improvement in product conformance.

 

Key Responsibilities/Principle Accountabilities:

 

Rice/Rice Technology Quality Control: 
• Provide on-shift audit services to production and packaging lines and enhance capability analysis for process and package lines
• Provide analysis for product and package quality, and utilize analysis in escalation protocol on-shift in coordination with Shift Managers in processing, dry and RTH
• Understand and apply learning from the production and packaging of rice and share in shift communication
• Provide GMP, Allergen, and HACCP audits to assigned shift.  Write and monitor corrective actions based on audit findings (both scheduled and unscheduled audits)
• Provide technical support in key areas: rice receiving, rice processing, dry Packaging and RTH
• Assist site Material Inspector in monitoring suppliers’ compliance with GRV specifications and standards.   Ensure MSQM process is followed by shift operators for materials

 

Quality Systems:
• Understand and maintain the Quality Systems electronic format of documentation, quality manuals and work instructions, quality records, and quality/manufacturing databases. Maintain reporting features, graphics, operator interfaces, job aids, and records capture
• Review/audit the dual electronic and written records for the RTH process to include the FDA requirements of records review, regulatory compliance, HACCP/HARPC, and records retention
• Able to manage hold/block initiation for finished goods, and release of RTH product in SAP
• Assist with change management implementation to the shift and operator level 

 

Continuous Improvement Initiatives: 
• Improve profitability through innovation, research and experimentation. Provide technical investigative support in identifying and resolving product/process quality issues
• Statistically analyze manufacturing and quality data as a means to interpret results and information for reporting trends and highlighting potentially unfavorable conditions using audits and process capability studies.  Design and carry out sampling plans to troubleshoot product and process defect situations
• Develop and deliver Quality Technical Training as verification for quality control procedures as assigned
• Investigate consumer concerns and support continuous improvement projects to reduce CPM

 

Product and Process, Quality Services:
• Develop process improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency of existing and new recipe/products without risk to product conformance or established specifications
• Technical resource to site for Production
• Participate in a team setting demonstrating team support and team improvement initiatives to meet all department and company objectives


Miscellaneous:
• Provide leadership in co-ordination of problem-solving activities as needed to resolve quality issues associated with conformance and compliance to specification
• Maintain a Best Practice for each package/product/process within the site
• Assume responsibilities for maintaining work areas in clean, sanitary and safe conditions
• Practice the Five Principles of Mars

 

Minimum Requirements:
• HS  diploma or GED
• 1  year of manufacturing experience required
• Strong attention to detail in previous work experiences. Good basic math, and communication skills
• Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of personal computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, SPC application software, databases, etc.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to build trust and respect in leadership role of decision making. Good communication skills.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment without restriction with strong team participation skills
• Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to learn to operate quality control testing equipment
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision and a positive attitude
• Basic knowledge of Safety & Quality Systems and procedures
• Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 3 years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines
• Basic knowledge of Safety, Quality, and Material Management Systems and procedures
• Working knowledge of Food Science Principles and Food Safety
• Demonstrated participation in Quality Management Systems through participation in PRIMP Risk Assessment, Internal Audit, or Food Safety Management (HACCP) Team
• Basic knowledge of food safety, GMP, HACCP, SPC
• Knowledge of inventory control principles
