Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Systems Engineer to work with SBIRS Mobiles (S2E2) systems. The qualified candidate will provide systems engineering and mission assurance expertise to space programs of national interest with an emphasis on ensuring the successful transition from development to operational capability. This role will work both independently and in teams as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, and project leader, and will lead and organize technical efforts and  project teams.

 

Key Functions

  • Requirements verification, testing and integration support for SBIRS Survivable Endurable Evolution (S2E2)
  • Systems engineering support to Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) block testing
  • Provide independent assessments of S2E2 agile development progress, requirements compliance and milestone readiness assessments
  • Evaluate and review Requirements Verification Plans (RVP), test procedures, witness tests and document test results accurately and completely
  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), Test Exit Reviews (TERs), Requirements Verification Reviews (RVRs), Tests (at various levels) and other key activities supporting milestone events as required
  • Engineering support to integration & verification planning for future systems.
  • Interact with all levels of Corporate, customer and contractor personnel

Qualifications

This position can be filled as a SBIRS Systems Engineer or a Sr. SBIRS Systems Engineer.

 

Required Qualifications for SBIRS Systems Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science from a recognized institution
  • 8 or more years of relevant technical and leadership experience in space system development, system engineering, and/or system integration and test
  • A current Secret/SCI clearance
  • Demonstrated acquisition, operations or sustainment experience with space force enhancement (communications, situational awareness, indications & warning, navigation) or space intelligence systems
  • Experience performing integrated/enterprise system requirements development, test or verification
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work independently and effectively with the government customers, contractors, other government organizations supporting both the customer and/or supplier, and Aerospace team members
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects between different organizational entities and with multi-discipline teams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven initiative
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible work location, to include regular presence at Peterson AFB and Schriever AFB, CO
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule including occasional weekends and overtime
  • Ability to travel is required.
  • Primary Aerospace organizational reporting location for this position is Colorado Springs, CO

 

Systems Engineer Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Top Secret/ SCI clearance
  • Advanced technical degree, Master of Science (or equivalent) or beyond
  • Experience in the development, testing, integration, verification, sustainment, or operations SBIRS, or experience with the SBIRS Survivable Endurable Evolution (S2E2) program

 

Required Qualifications for Sr. SBIRS Systems Engineer

  • Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science from a recognized institution
  • 12 or more years of relevant technical and leadership experience in space system development, system engineering, and/or system integration and test
  • A current Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • Demonstrated acquisition, operations or sustainment experience with space force enhancement (communications, situational awareness, indications & warning, navigation) or space intelligence systems
  • Experience performing integrated/enterprise system requirements development, test or verification
  • Experience in the development, testing, integration, verification, sustainment, or operations SBIRS, or experience with the SBIRS Survivable Endurable Evolution (S2E2) program
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work independently and effectively with the government customers, contractors, other government organizations supporting both the customer and/or supplier, and Aerospace team members
