Credit Risk Leader – Unsecured Lending

The Credit Risk Leader will be responsible for managing all aspects of credit risk including acquisitions and portfolio management for Citizens unsecured installment lending products.  This role reports to the Head of Credit Risk for Unsecured, Credit Card & Overdraft.   This position requires strong, collaborative, and cross functional partnerships to ensure credit risk strategies and broader business line objectives are achieved.   The role requires an individual that can provide strategic, tactical, and thought leadership to Unsecured Lending Credit Risk colleagues, broader Risk community, and business line.  The Credit Risk leader is responsible for, but not limited to: 
  • Developing a high-performing and engaged workforce while adapting quickly to rapidly changing contexts
  • Leverage credit risk domain expertise to solve business-related problems of a primarily quantitative nature by conducting quantitative analyses across the credit risk management spectrum (Targeting, Underwriting and Account Management)
  • Providing thoughtful feedback to business leadership regarding risk/opportunities, this requires a  good understanding of the full range of risks in financial services and applicable regulations to consumer lending
  • Promoting pro-business but credit controlled philosophy by developing sound credit risk strategies and continuously validating existing champion strategies
  • Work cross-functionally with product management team, marketing and pricing to instrument and measure key metrics, build best-class credit strategies and design hypothesis-driven experiments.
  • Implementing step change improvements in reporting capabilities by focusing on value added activities that support both internal and external stakeholders

  • Providing the Head of Credit Risk for the Unsecured business line, the Business Line Leader, the Chief Credit Officer for Consumer and Risk Committees with relevant and material credit risk updates on strategies, performance, and emerging risks with proposed action
  • Protect the bank’s assets and support proactive regulatory engagement to ensure compliance
  • Partnering with enterprise risk colleagues to enhance loss forecasting, reserving, and economic capital processes and output
  • Research and Development:  Lead efforts to leverage new tools and techniques to improve insights developing new analytical approaches and techniques across the credit risk management spectrum


Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 8+ years in Financial Services or Banking
  • 5 years in consumer credit risk leadership role with track record of leading a team
  • 3-5 years of relevant experiences  in the usage of analytics to evaluate risk in consumer lending banking  or in other relevant fields (Telco, Near Prime Lending, alternative lenders, Mobile, ecommerce, Fintechs, data aggregators, capital markets, rating agencies)
  • Relevant experiences using technical tools to derive analytical insights (SAS, R, SPSS or other relevant statistical package)
  • Ability to make clear, coherent and holistic recommendations based on quantitative analysis and get buy-in from both technical and non-technical audiences across all levels.
  • Aptitude to pick up new technical skills and desire to learn new ways of evaluating traditional and non-traditional credit data
  • Exceptional ability in working with numbers and statistics
  • Experience in regulatory, underwriting, and/or credit assurance is a plus
  • Must have strong organizational, project management, and execution skills
  • In depth knowledge of the risk management analytics tool box and capabilities
  • Proven ability to balance the risk/reward equation and drive profitable growth within defined risk boundaries
  • High level of business acumen and strong understanding of how a P&L works
  • Ability to provide constructive input on both the revenue and the loss lines

Education:

  • Undergraduate and/or Master degree in business, statistics, data science, behavioral economics, computer science, applied mathematics or any other relevant quantitative fields

Travel:

  • Role may require candidate to travel to Citizens Bank Consumer Bank headquarters located in Legacy Place, MA at least 1 time per month to attend portfolio credit risk reviews with business leadership.
