Nielsen is seeking an innovative and experienced Architect to spearhead the identification, design and development of critical infrastructure components for enabling cloud adoption within the Watch business.  This individual will work as a senior member of the Nielsen Tech Transformation team to specify, design and develop critical framework and components for use in migration from legacy on-premises database systems to the latest cloud technologies.  The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, be proficient in one or more database technologies (Hadoop, Spark, PostgreSQL, MySQL etc…).   • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar, MS or other advanced degree a plus.

  • Architecture, design, implementation, and operational support expertise with Cloudera Hadoop(Impala, Spark , Hive Etc, etc.).

  • Strong Impala background and knowledge in Spark

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be hands on with all technologies

  • Experience with DevOps a plus

  • AWS Certifications desired  Certifications for other Cloud platforms a plus.

  • Proficient in database design and data modeling.

  • Proficient in SQL and able to write complex queries for large datasets.

  • Good fundamental and hands on knowledge of relational databases such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySql, Netezza.

  • Solid understanding of  ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load) concepts and tools.

  • Experience with scripting in UNIX based environments with Shell/Python.

  • Experience with delivering using Agile methodology practices.

  • Demonstrated success with Cloud / Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) network and security design / implementation / operations.

  • Analyze, design, develop, test, implement and document software applications and business  systems of the highest complexity.

  • Prototype software components and incorporate reusable assets into the application design.

  • In collaboration with Architect Leaders, and as a result of a high degree of business engagement, develop plans for building application solutions and environments that address the company's business and technological strategies and are conducive to quick, inexpensive systems delivery.

  • Participate on project teams

  • Define, document, and implement conceptual designs consisting of data strategy, business processes, application interfaces, and technology solutions.

  • Define and implement a structure and design framework including applications design; end-user environment; hardware, software and network environment; and methodologies and standards.

  • Train, coach, and share technical and business knowledge with less experienced staff

  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment automation tools such as Jenkins is a must

  • Puppet, Chef, Ansible.

  • 12+ years IT experience with 5+ years’ experience in solutions development.

  • 8+ years experience developing specific technology per group applications and 5+ years at an Architect level.

  • Superior customer relation skills.
