Engineering Manager Job Summary

 

This position will play a key role in the overall success of our organization by planning, managing and monitoring manufacturing engineering functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing various engineering projects, processes, budgets, assist with achieving plant safety, quality as well as productivity objectives and timelines for making any necessary adjustments to ensure successful completion.

 

Engineering Manager Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop engineering team by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieves engineering operational objectives by contributing engineering information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing EHS, production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining administrative system improvements; implementing change.
  • Meets engineering financial objectives by forecasting engineering requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Develops strategic engineering plans by studying operational plans; studying existing conditions; determining needs to accomplish operational plans; mapping solutions; updating and modifying requirements and solutions; preparing cost estimates and budgets.
  • Plans engineering projects by determining specifications; selecting contractors; establishing installation schedules; planning shut-downs and installations; integrating requirements with architectural and mechanical designs; verifying code requirements; updating cost estimates.
  • Completes engineering projects by supervising installations; resolving design issues. Ensures compliance with all company, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain engineering systems by establishing or enforcing preventive and on-going maintenance, and testing programs; scheduling repairs; coordinating shut-downs and installations.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with codes and legal regulations.
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining current on codes and requirements; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

 

Engineering Manager Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Master’s degree in engineering management or business administration preferred
  • 6+ years of engineering experience, ideally in a management role
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
