    Responsibilities

    This announcement establishes a standing register of eligible applicants to be considered for permanent full-time appointments. The first list of eligible applicants will be pulled for referral on 11:59 PM (EST) December 15, 2017 and then again ever Friday at 11:59 PM (EST) until the closing date of 12/31/2018. All applicants may receive consideration for one year from the date of application.

    The VA Illiana Health Care System (VAIHCS), Danville, IL is seeking a full time Pulmonologist to support our Veteran population. VAIHCS prefers Physicians who are board certified or board eligible in Pulmonary Medicine. The Physician will be responsible for providing a full range of pulmonary services for a diverse group of Veterans within the VAIHCS. These duties include but are not limited to referral consultation covering all issues of the respiratory system.

    The physician is charged with delivering the best possible Pulmonary services to our Veteran patients. The Pulmonary Physician will perform indicated services for conditions in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, possibly including telemedicine. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and meet community standards. The Pulmonary Physician works within his/her privileges always. Additionally, candidate will be required to participate in the education of medical residents.
    • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with pulmonary diseases per accepted standards of care.
    • Perform outpatient consultations for pulmonary disease.
    • Provide inpatient consultations for pulmonary disease.
    • Perform invasive procedures for which she/he has been trained and granted privileges.
    • Interpret pulmonary function tests.
    • Patient recertification for home oxygen/sleep.
    • With appropriate skills and certifications, may participate in the Sleep Medicine Program.
    • Attend Medical Service/Staff meetings.
    • Complete medical records and consultations in accordance with VHA Directives and local policies.
    • Perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine and/or Chief of Staff.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.); light carrying (under 15 lbs.); use of fingers, walking 4-8 hours; standing 4-8 hours; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted); working closely with others; working alone; emotional and mental stability required.

    Qualifications
    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Physical requirements outlined below.
    Preferred Experience: Board certified.

A full range of ambulatory care services is offered including primary care, ambulatory surgery, mental health, substance abuse, and specialty care. The parent facility is located in Danville, Illinois and its four Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Peoria, Decatur, Springfield and Mattoon, IL serve a population of approximately 130,976 Veterans.

This concept provides a full range of personal care and clinical services that gives priority to the Veteran's quality of life, providing an atmosphere of security, privacy, dignity and companionship in a real home setting.
