    Reporting to the Director Project Readiness, could you be our new Head of Project Engineering & Design? The Head of Project Engineering & Design will provide coordination and oversight of all engineering & design activities across multiple projects and to provide technical management expertise to support the design review team within V/Line, with a particular focus on contractual obligations and compliance. Leading a team of professionals, this role will be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate processes and frameworks, to ensure that projects are well planned, future ready and supported to be safely delivered. The function of the role is to support the organisation to achieve the best engineering and technology outcomes for the State, V/Line and V/Line’s stakeholders.

    About the role

  • Manage high level reviews of the design packages from Project delivery agents in accordance with the Project Agreement and all relevant standards and support any configuration changes, DMS Interface.
  • Ensure that assets are properly designed, selected, and installed based on a life-cycle philosophy.
  • Ensure infrastructure projects are carried out to the agreed processes, procedures and standards and assist in the review of improved standards.
  • Responsible for the leadership of Design review experts and key stakeholders to ensure we identify all costs associated with the design review process and any efficiencies are documented.
  • Contribute to the Leadership Team when required in the development of organisation-wide strategies, budgets, policies and culture to ensure the achievement of organisational goals and financial objectives.
  • Provide support to the Project Managers by providing assistance with major issues, advice on project matters wherever beneficial to support and enable Project related change on the V/Line network.
  • Key selection criteria for the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (essential)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Rail, Transport, Infrastructure Management, or technical aligned qualification Experience in project management and/ general field management Extensive experience in Managing multi-disciplinary stakeholders and Projects
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multiple disciplines to support complex projects, people management capabilities and stakeholder management
  • A proven track record in managing multiple complex stakeholder relationships coupled with extensive knowledge of and experience in complex rail projects.
  • Proven technical, financial, commercial, risk and contract management expertise and demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate issues and provide effective solutions at senior levels within the public and private sectors.
