Engineering Group Manager - SVP

The Engineering Group Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to drive a variety of engineering activities including the design, acquisition and deployment of hardware, software and network infrastructure in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to lead efforts to ensure quality standards are being met within existing and planned framework.

  • Ensure the goals of functional area are delivered to appropriate Operations & Technology (O&T) organizations
  • Oversee O&T spending to ensure the firm's finances are budgeted and spent according to the Chief Technology officer's (CTO) technology strategies
  • Manage overall execution of IT strategy and roadmap for the technology area
  • Lead operational readiness and conformance to global operational standards for ongoing operation and support
  • Utilize an in-depth understanding of how engineering integrates within technology and commercial awareness
  • Responsible for training and coaching team members, performance management activities, monitoring quantity and quality of work, and addressing development needs for assigned personnel
  • Make evaluative judgment based on analyzing information in complicated or unique situations; utilizing multiple sources of information
  • Impact engineering through overseeing planning, finances / budget, end results and policy setting
  • Negotiate with senior leaders across functions and with external parties, as required
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.


  • 10+ years of relevant experience in an Engineering role with commensurate experience in people management.
  • Experience working in Financial Services or a large complex and/or global environment
  • Project Management experience
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design metrics, analytics tools, benchmarking activities and related reporting to identify best practices
  • Demonstrated analytic/diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and partner with virtual teams
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage to tight deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements
  • Proven track record of operational process change and improvement


  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree preferred


  • Global Service Owner of Enterprise Analytics Platform Services.
  • Manage global organization that is responsible for all facets of the service including architecture, engineering, and operations.
  • Responsible for engineering and certifying complete Cloudera Hadoop stack and associated platforms deployed on (RHEL physical, RHEL VMs, RHEL Containers).
  • Develop migration plan for deconstructing existing monolithic service project deployments into individualized EAS services to modernize, optimize and de-risk the Hadoop based EAP environment.

  • Develop, own and drive platform stability remediation efforts to enhance client experience and reduce frequency of business impact and associated noise.
  • Facilitate existing manual client onboarding and project provisioning to platform but develop migration path to a fully self-service automated solution.
  • Responsible for proper capacity management and coordination with project pipeline processes and annual budget investment cycles.
  • Responsible for COB Testing coordination, change management, book of work scheduling, VTM remediation and greenzone management.
  • Coordinate major platform technology implementation and upgrades for projects such as EOVS remediation and new functionality rollout.

  • Effectively communicate with management and client project teams to educate them on overall service offerings and platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with application teams to gather new client project requirements and align to platform capabilities and standards.
  • Collaborate with application teams to gather new product/functionality demand and provide input to product management processes shaping technology roadmap.
  • Create business proposals and financial quotes for utilizing platform services.
  • Digest in-region requirements, risks and controls and incorporate into existing global standard operating procedures.

  • Transition manual touch points of business functions into client supported self-service automated processes accelerating time to market.


  • Excellent relationship management skills across business and technical areas with the ability to build relationships and exert influence without direct authority.

  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels of seniority.
  • Proficient at running multiple efforts simultaneously in a global environment.
  • Experience with any of the Analytical products such as DataRobot, Dataiku, H2O, H2O DriverlessAI, Notebooks and Python/R distributions.

  • Experience with Docker, Containers and Kubernetes platforms.
  • Understanding of analytics concepts, AI model development, training and deployment.
  • Any experience in Hadoop (Cloudera preferred), Impala, Spark, Hive, Pig, HBase, Java, C++, Perl, or Python.
  • Experience with large scale Analytical platforms.
  • Able to interact with client projects in cross-functional teams.

  • Good interpersonal with excellent communication skills - written and spoken English.
  • Good team player interested in sharing knowledge and cross-training other team members and shows interest in learning new technologies and products.
  • Ability to create documents of high quality. Ability to work in a structured environment and follow procedures, processes and policies.
  • Self-starter who works with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a team of diverse skill sets and geographies.
