The ideal candidate will serve in a technical role in designing, documenting and supporting, standard and custom rail service equipment, functional systems, and production support for a variety of products working initially with simple components and will gradually take on more complex component and systems design with an experienced engineer as mentor. The ideal candidate will work with wide variety of product types while continuing to develop machine and system design experience.
Responsible for supporting designing and documenting of system level requirements
Supports system level target manufacturing cost objectives
Supports system integration into the vehicle
Supports system and component level DFMEAs
Works in a diverse team environment to support the creation of component level and simple systems design and integrate them into a cohesive vehicle architecture.
Manage technical documentation for production-ready 3D CAD models of sub-assemblies and mechanical components with 2D production prints
Analyze Change Requests & Implement Change Notices
Maintain Product Structure / Bill of Materials (BOM)
Offer innovative solutions for cost reductions, quality issues, safety issues, etc.
Create new and improve existing standard work procedures
Frequent visits to the shop floor, customer site, and field in order to work with Production to improve quality, manufacturability, cost, etc.
Provide periodic status updates on projects
Offer innovative solutions to technically complex problems
Continuous Improvement activities: Engineering initiatives to contribute to evolving work processes, WIs, Engineering Standards.
A. Education
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering
B. Experience
Level 1 Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering and 1 (or less) to 3 years of related experience in design engineering.
Level 2 Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering and 5 or more years of related experience in design engineering.
III. Preferred Qualifications
A. Education and Experience
Experience with 3D CAD modeling software: CREO or Solid Edge preferred.
Experience with PLM software. Teamcenter experience ideal.
Industry related senior engineer final project
Experience creating and maintaining BOMs
Knowledge of Systems engineering principles and processes
Knowledge of DFM, DFA, Design to Cost
Basic knowledge of Railroad specific standards and design practices
Experience of machine design in heavy mobile equipment
Knowledge of ferrous materials properties and characteristics
Knowledge of welding principles and practices
Knowledge of manufacturing principles and processes
Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma

Comfortable working in a matrix organization: The Mechanical Product Design Engineer must be able to work effectively with employees at all levels in different departments on a daily basis.
Ability to incorporate and manage multiple formats into the complete product definition: vendor manuals, vendor data sheets, customer specifications, Harsco Rail specifications, 2D drawings, 3D models, mark-ups, verbal instructions, etc.
Highly motivated to provide project deliverables on time and be able to establish priorities when multiple deliverables coincide.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, and working with manufacturing personnel to address issues and implement design improvements.
Interest and ability to contribute to evolving work processes.
Passionate about mechanical product design.
