SUMMARY: The primary focus for this position is to ensure that Independent Can Company complies with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations. The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator inspects and evaluates the environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. The chief goal is to protect the employees, customers and the environment. This position will identify potentially hazardous biological, chemical and radiological materials and collect samples of them for analysis. They will also recommend changes to protect workers, and educate employees on how to prevent health problems through the use of safety training programs. The EHS Coordinator will investigate accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future.   • Conduct routine safety observations to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures and practices
  • Maintain working relationships with Regulatory Agencies and facilitate the Safety Committee for all Operations
  • Manage Team Base Risk Assessments and the process and regularly conduct training needs analysis
  • Lead the Emergency Response Team and comply with all Company policies and procedures
  • Maintain internal and regulatory reporting including data collection and reporting including but not limited to air, storm water and surface water discharge
  • Manage the maintenance and implementation of environmental procedures, safety programs, compliance plans, and initiatives
  • Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses and property damage incidents. Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and proper records/documents are maintained
  • Conduct, coordinate and track various training to support company programs
  • Ensure the company meets all its legislative compliance obligations with OSHA, CAL/OSHA, EPA, AQMD, ADA, and fire codes
  • Serve as primary contact for all regulatory agencies for inspections, permitting, reporting (air, water, waste)
  • Maintain compliance with permits, government regulations and other industry practices
  • Keep abreast of any safety and environmental law or regulation changes that impact the organization
  • Ability to take necessary steps to ensure a safe work environment for all employees
  • Participate in manufacturing meetings to discuss workplace safety and regulatory concerns and opportunities
  • Actively role model all company environmental, health and safety standards
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with Operations, Managers, Supervisors and employees
  • Keep the Plant Managers and Human Resources Manager up to date on matters relating to environmental, health and safety
  • Assist in the oversight of the Workers Compensation program
  • Travel to other branches as required and perform any additional duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • 3 5 years experience in manufacturing environment with responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of state and federal EH&S regulations and experience working with regulators
  • Process Safety Management experience
  • Risk management and project management leadership skills
  • Behavior Based Safety experience
  • Proven experience and knowledge of various systems as OHSAS 18001, ISO14001
  • Willing to work different shifts and travel up to 20% of the time
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to be on call or work off hours as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Superior analytical/ problem solving, written and verbal communications
  • Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred
  • Familiar with various emission control devices to ensure compliance
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: BS in Occupational Health and Safety or related field (preferred); or a University degree in science or engineering.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of executives, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. The candidate must have the mathematical ability to apply concepts of algebra, calculus, statistics, and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid State Drivers License, which meets Company requirements of the Fleet Management Policy and insurance requirements. Qualification Considerations: Stormwater, SPCC, SWPPP, air permitting, air modeling, RCRA/EPA/DOT/OSHA 500, 501, 510, 511, OSHA Outreach trainer.
