Programme Manager - Technology Platforms


* *Business Planning* * Develop and maintain an understanding of the business area concerned (in terms of its vision, strategic intent, strategic objectives, KPIs and delivery strategy) * Assist the business area concerned to develop its annual business plan, by helping it to identify priority IS-dependent improvement projects that make sense in terms of the IS strategic vision * Assist the business area to gain approval to its business plan by confirming (in principle at this stage) the deliverability of these projects when requested to do so by ExCo * Support the business area in working with the EPMO to ensure that the proposed projects are accepted into the approved portfolio for the year, and that the approved portfolio and the business plan are aligned * Work with the IS PMO to provide IS with an early view of the proposed IS-dependent portfolio for the business area concerned * Develop a clear understanding of the relative prioritisation of the proposed projects and be able to explain the core importance of the project (benefits), and its IS impacts (resource and system) to the IS PMO * *Reporting* * Report at appropriate frequency to the business area and to the IS PMO on the status of each project in the approved portfolio, progress of those in development & testing, and any issues that have emerged (and their proposed resolution) * Assist the business area with reporting progress to the EPMO and the relevant project governance forums (e.g. Portfolio Functional Committee). * Feedback lessons learned on the overall project delivery process to the business area leadership, the EPMO and the IS PMO * *Relationship Management* * Develop and maintain a strong relationship with key stakeholders, including: * The business area Executive * Business area ExCo * Project Sponsors in the business area * Project Managers in the business area * Product Managers in the business area * Business Owners in the business area * Head of the IS PMO * Project Managers in IS PMO * Delivery Stream Leads in IS * Business Analysis Stream Leads in EPMO * GMs (and where necessary SMs and SMEs) in IS (and Network Group where relevant) * Digital Online team * *Customer Satisfaction (internal)* * Understand customer needs and develop Roadmap views accordingly * Ensure customer needs and requirements are satisfied through appropriate systems / processes / procedures * Put contingency plans in place to prevent delays and enhance the customer experience * Adopt a proactive approach to prevent problems from arising in the future * Identify trends / patterns pertaining to customer requests and needs to continually improve all aspects of service delivery * Provide feedback on Operational matters that significantly impacts business (as an IT representative), however this is not a primary responsibility * *IS PMO Service Delivery support:* * Central management of IS project portfolio * Produce and present and distribute weekly and monthly project related information and reports and ensure alignment between IS and business unit and EPMO * Plan and forecast IS project resource capacity * Plan the sequence of projects and align them to the Client's organisations prioritisation framework * Identify project dependencies and manage the impact of project change control, issues and risks * Assess critical project risks and ensure the necessary mitigation plans are in place * Provide technical advice to IS project managers to facilitate optimal project scheduling * Assist individual PMs with issue escalation and problem resolution as and when required * Line management function for IT Project Managers allocated to his/her portfolio * *Governance/Strategy/Process/Tools* * Ensure adherence to the project management strategy, governance, and tools within the Business and PMO functions. * Continuously assist to improve IS project delivery processes in line with industry best practices * Maintain an efficient, high quality and cost-effective project execution function that supports waterfall and iterative and agile development methodologies while delivering for a dynamic business. * Conduct regular health checks at appropriate points in project lifecycles to ensure compliance to the Client's project management methodology (e.g. sign off requirements, change requests, testing sign-off and CAB approvals) * *Supplier/Vendor Relationship Management * * Build and maintain vendor and supplier relationships with external providers in line with Group Corporate Policy * *Project Delivery* * Develop and drive the execution of agreed projects * Drive the implementation, tracking, monitoring and compliance of Projects * Co-ordinate project reporting * Ensure effective implementation of the integrated project management model * Risk management * Support the business area concerned in gaining any other necessary approvals for the project (e.g. financial, commercial, capex, procurement etc.) including input into the development of an appropriate Business Case * Once the project has been accepted into the approved portfolio, work with the IS PMO to agree a projected delivery slot for the project in the IS development pipeline * Maintain a view on this delivery slot during conceptualisation and approval; together with the IS PMO, adjust as necessary * Monitor the delivery of the project by IS; ensure appropriate business area support to IS during development and assist in the resolution of any issues between IS and the business as these emerge * Monitor testing of the project by IS; ensure appropriate business area support to IS during testing and assist in the resolution of any issues between IS and the business as these emerge * Together with the business Project Manager, oversee the acceptance testing of the project and ensure (through the Project Manager) that the Project Sponsor and Business Owner accept IS deliverables to successfully close-out the project * Work between the business area concerned and IS during the immediate post-handover period to identify and address any issues that emerge during initial adoption of the deliverables by the business area * Complete the sign-off process, ensure IS-related lessons are captured and disseminated into the business and to the IS PMO * Ensure that the business area concerned adopts proper governance for approved projects; at a minimum, help the business area concerned to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Project Sponsor and Project Manager * Support the business area concerned in the development of the concept of the project, engaging specialist colleagues from IS where necessary; ensure that IS deliverability is built into the project concept at every stage of its development * Assist the business area concerned to prepare a robust RDS that meets IS acceptance test * Support the approval of the RDS by the relevant Product Development Forum and Project Governance Forum (e.g. PFC) * Work with the IS PMO to accept the project for solutioning and development. * On Single domain projects (without a specific IS PM assigned), be closely involved in the delivery * 4 years tertiary qualification /Masters advantageous * BSc (Engineering, Computer Science), B Com Information systems or National Diploma * Internationally recognised* Project Management qualification* such as PRINCE2 or PMP certified * Fluent in *English * *Experience:* * Minimum of 5 years experience in *project management, portfolio management *and* people management. * * Experience working in a medium to large organization * Experience managing projects with *cross-functional teams* and on *different technology platforms. * * Experience in the *telecommunication industry* would be an advantage * Worked
