Renishaw is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to join the Spectroscopy Products Division (SPD) to guide the Divisions mechanical Engineering team. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable record of developing successful, innovative products whist delivering them to market and meeting customer, regulatory and budgetary requirements. They will be contributing to all aspects of the product development cycle.
Team management and customer interaction skills will be required, as well as the willingness to mentor and grow the team.
Responsibilities
Strong leadership qualities to guide the SPD mechanical team
Managing, planning, and driving product realisation activities, from concept feasibility through to product launch
Design of system components including precision opto-mechanical assemblies and mechanisms
The ability to compile design specifications and test plans for the product designs
Data analysis to support the design following prototype build and test
To select appropriate materials and manufacturing routes
Mechanical engineering support for our current range of Raman spectrometers and accessories
You will work closely with Production Engineering to enable transfer of new designs into Production and ongoing support of current products
Key requirements
Educated to at least degree level in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Able to demonstrate a previous significant role in product development
An attention to detail in all areas
Prior working expertise in a supervisory role
Able to demonstrate an extensive knowledge and substantial expertise in the design and development of mechanical devices and systems
Proven CAD expertise
Proven practical skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task and offer immediate support should issues arise within the engineering and Production teams
Desirable requirements
Proven Siemens NX expertise
Familiarity with the use of FE Analysis
An aptitude and enthusiasm for problem solving
Knowledge and practical expertise in rapid prototyping technologies and processes
Proven track record of product testing and data analysis
Vacuum technology understanding

The successful applicant for this role will need to demonstrate that they can successfully stimulate and drive innovation in product design and development, have good problem-solving skills and attention to detail, ultimately delivering successful products to market.
The applicant must also possess strong interpersonal and organisation skills and be able to demonstrate design excellence, their practical skills and considering the views of the team and other functions.
