Senior Scientist- Method Development

As a Senior Scientist you will be an experienced analytical chemist with a demonstrable knowledge of modern sample extraction and clean-up techniques and mass spectrometric (LC & GC) techniques wanting to take the next step in your career. You will be reporting to the contaminants team manager and be responsible for the development, validation and improvement of accredited methods for the analysis of contaminants in food and environmental samples. What you'll be doing:

  • Undertaking sample extraction and clean-up techniques and mass spectrometric (LC & GC) techniques
  • You'll be responsible for the development, validation and improvement of accredited methods for the analysis of contaminants in food and environmental samples
  • You will also be interacting with various internal and external customers to support method refresh, research activities
  • Though leadership and assisting with the development of junior staff
  • Maintaining the highest standards of analytical measurement to provide a competitive, efficient and cost-effective contaminant screening service for Fera's growing business needs
  • Keeping up to date of the current global regulatory requirements relating to residue and contaminant analysis in food and environmental samples.

What we're looking for:

  • Ideally, BSc or PhD in Analytical chemistry or equivalent discipline
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Experience of working at a senior level in an analytical chemistry laboratory environment.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of chemical techniques used for the clean-up and extraction of residues and contaminations from complex sample matrices.
  • In depth practical experience of LC-MS & GC-MS including method development, routine operation, data processing and interpretation of results.
  • Experience writing of scientific article, papers for publication and technical customer reports.
  • Experience of operating within a quality assurance system such as ISO 17025 or GLP
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to design experiments, develop methods and troubleshoot.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills and knowledge of specialist data processing software platforms.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects.
