Welcome to Walters, Navy Yard's beloved Nationals centric neighborhood restaurant.
Entering our 4th baseball season, we are mixing things up and looking for a new Chef to work along side our General Manager on refreshing our menu and guiding our kitchen staff. While we are always looking for talented cooks our kitchen is staffed with good people who follow direction well.
Our Executive Chef will be responsible for creating the restaurant's menu and adjusting it depending on the seasonality or availability of food. The Executive Chef reports to the General Manager
Responsibilities:
o Create new recipes based
o Modify menus or create new ones that meet our style and standards
o Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs
o Supervise kitchen staff’s activities
o Oversee portion control and quantities of preparation to minimize waste
o Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
o Recruit and manage kitchen staff
o Give prepared plates the “final touch”
o Perform some administrative duties
o Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
o Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests
o Commit to a humble hospitality and high-quality guest experience
o Be able to handle volume with a professionalism
o Hold the standard of high-quality food above all else
o Understand that simple, rustic, authentic food takes as much – if not more – talent as big complicated plates
o Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
o Communication and leadership skills
o Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
o Hours may vary
Skills:
o Share the passion for food, beer and cocktails with the guest experience
o Working knowledge of various computer software programs
Education/Experience:
o 4 years of experience
o High volume restaurant experience is a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
