Project Controller - North West

This is a new and exciting position for an experienced Project Controller who has a strong working knowledge of software for reporting  on Power BI, Qlik, or Tableau.
You will be responsible for the implementation, adoption and use of project controls tools and information within their area of responsibility (typically a larger project/framework/BU). Providing actionable insight on the performance of projects within your area supporting dependable project management and assuring project/projects performance targets are achieved.  To act as a “critical friend” and to support the objectives of the Planning and Commercial function

What you will be doing
* Line manage junior project controls staff and support their professional development.
* Ensure business project controls & reporting procedures and processes are implemented across their project/projects
* To facilitate the development of local project controls & reporting procedures and processes to suit the requirements of their project/projects.
* Ensure that the adopted processes & procedures are operating effectively and enable the efficient, holistic and rigorous analysis of project and portfolio performance.
* To champion and drive the adoption of project controls & reporting requirements within their portfolio.
* Manage the collection, extraction and validation of source data for the purposes of analysis.
* Lead the critical analysis of information and metrics to identify performance, areas of actual and potential concern.
* Provide early identification and warning of areas of potential risk & issue so that they can be mitigated in a proactive manner.
* To provide objective, transparent, timely and evidence-based insight on performance at a portfolio and project level.
* To collate performance information and insight in compelling, effective and intuitive communication formats to meet the requirement of stakeholders (project, portfolio, business and group levels).
* Validate that data used for analysis is of a suitable quality and accuracy.
* Provide support and coaching to peers, helping to enabling them to adopt and utilise project controls information and collateral.
* Act as a subject matter expert providing input and opinion to peers and leaders on matters relating to performance, project controls and reporting.
* Lead the collation of information and packs associated with the project & business reporting cycle.
* Support the effective control and management of projects through the provision and analysis of performance information.
* Ensure that there is accurate and transparent reporting of performance, risk and issues.
* Ensure that there are measures in place to feedback actual outputs and productivity information to the work winning / estimating teams.
* Support the proactive identification, management and mitigation of project, portfolio and business unit risks

Who we are looking for
* Ability to read and understand dashboards and reports
* Capability to analyse data sets, investigate use and propose, challenge information
* Ability to identify exceptions and the causes for them (wrong input, errors in the filters on visuals or in the recording system logic, etc.)
* Proficiency in interacting with stakeholders (Site workers, Engineers, Project managers, Directors, etc.), understand reporting requirements, and translate them into effective visuals that allow control on projects
* Capability to explain reports to a diversified audience and to answer questions on the way data has been collected, organised and presented
* Previous experience in Construction (Civils Sector) is beneficial but not essential
* Knowledge of Microsoft suite, in particular Excel.
* Previous experience in the use of software for reporting (e.g. Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, etc.)
* Ability to drive attention to the focal elements that determine success of projects from a production/productivity, cost/value and H&S perspective
* Capability to read and understand Programme
* Knowledge of databases (SQL, Table Storage, etc.) is beneficial but not essential
* Capability to understand tools query data (PowerQuery, SQL Query) are beneficial but not essential
* Ability to manage workload and carry on different projects at the same time
