Linux Administrator (With DevOps/Azure Exposure) – Central Birmingham/Remote


This client is a leading International management consultancy, delivering innovative solutions in research and evaluation services for a range of UK and European organisations. They are looking for a Linux Administrator to help support system administrators and drive a DevOps culture forward within the business.

The Role:

The Communications and Digital team are looking for a Linux Administrator to support systems and web development teams by maintaining servers, websites and portals and managing and improving deployment procedures and processes for client focused work. You will work closely with other developers and technical support staff to maintain, support and deploy websites.

Role Requirements:

You will be part of an operations team supporting and facilitating different projects for the development team, as well as ensuring the maintenance and administration of the [mainly] Linux ecosystem/infrastructure.

You will be required to carry out routine and adhoc system administration tasks such as patching, backups, user account creation and administration, performance anomaly resolution and system defect identification and rectification.

Your role will be critical in creating and maintaining DevOps resources such as Azure and Jenkins CI pipeflows, as well as suggesting and implementing improvements to our overall DevOps culture.

You will be carrying out regular IT administration tasks such as server reviews, implementation and management of security and audit policies including penetration testing as needed.

You will be working with our development teams, providing direct server support during various operations such as application deployment and general development. This may involve participation in sprints, sprint planning and refinement, where required.

Collaborating with developers, you will be involved in researching and architecting solutions to solve security and compliance requirements, ensuing that new and existing environments meet requirements and conform to best practices.

You will manage the automation deployment processes across different environments using shell cripts and orchestration tools [or automation code base] such as puppet/chef/Ansible

You will configure and maintain monitoring software, and monitor metrics to be proactive about finding problems, both at the system level, and at the application level.

To preserve information security, you will report security breaches promptly, in line with the Information Security Policy, and to act in compliance with the Enterprise Security Framework [ESF] and coordinate the respective resolutions.

You will be effective at prioritizing requests from different teams fairly while displaying a rational sense of sympathy

You will be required to identify automation candidates within our processes and to write the scripts necessary to effect these.

* Shell scripting (Bash)

* Apache or Nginx

* Jenkins

* Git

* Jira

* Linux certifications such as Linux+, RHCSA/RHCE/RHCA or similar

* Cloud certification such as AWS, Azure, GCP
