The Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team delivers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank.  Supports Two Data Centers, 1 Service Desk, 32,000 End User Computing devices, 14,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month.  In addition to that foundational technology level, we also own and deliver End User & Collaboration tools with a focus on Ease of Use for the individual employee.  We deliver innovative, and compelling technology solutions to enhance the internal customer experience that enables our business partners to deliver.

Develop and implement Disaster Recovery, Data Sensitivity, Library Management, Back-up and Recovery, and Disaster Recovery Plans and Procedures.

General Job Description

The Disaster Recovery & Resiliency Manager manages the design, implementation, and communication of disaster recovery plans and processes that safeguard data processing operations by identifying potential problem areas and single points of failure that may result in interruptions to critical data processing operations.

This individual manages a team that facilitates DR planning, supports the buildout and enhancement of resilient, redundant systems, and develops and deploys training, documentation, and communication of disaster procedures to the organization.

The manager will provide leadership in coordinating, assessing, developing & communicating recovery environment requirements and contingency plans associated with the company’s Data Center current, in plan, and new activities, to appropriate technology groups, resulting in recommendations to enable timely and effective decisions regarding recovery planning.


  • Assume management responsibility for Data Center and Communications Network Recovery planning efforts with a major focus on achieving all financial estimates, assuring adequacy of end-state production recovery environments, meeting all strategic planning deliverables, coordinating activities of technology resources with other company business units and development groups, as required.
  • Lead in performing data center and communications network recovery capacity planning coordination with technology groups in support of specific business unit initiatives, with a major focus on proactively assuring an adequate recovery network and processing environment.
  • Provide direct communications between the Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, Tech Operations, Technology Architecture and Engineering, and Systems Development teams.
  • Assist the department in enhancing, formalizing, and standardizing the DR planning process, including forecasting and tracking mechanisms to facilitate timely accommodation of bank recovery requirements and opportunities.
  • Assume leadership role in developing, coordinating, and maintaining comprehensive data center recovery plans and a testing program, to ensure the ability to recovery, in the event of an unforeseen disruption to data center facilities, technology systems, or applications.
  • Perform all departmental administrative activities, including staff meeting attendance, monthly status reporting, budgeting, strategic planning, expense processing, documentation, and other activities, as assigned, in a timely fashion.
  • Produce all related documentation and provide training on Disaster Recovery procedures to employees as needed. Perform periodic audits of existing Disaster Recovery Plans and report to management on any improvements that need to be made

Education and Experience Required:

Minimum of Associates’ degree and 11 years’ technology management or large program leadership experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 11 years’ technology management or large program leadership experience

Proficiency with pertinent project management, word processing and spreadsheet applications

Capable of working on multiple projects of a complex nature

Experience on large system enhancements, conversions, and production problem resolution

Complete understanding of the system development life cycle

Excellent problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution

Familiar with application development software and hardware platforms

Understanding business(es) supported and its’ terminology

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent analytical skills

Excellent decision-making skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Prior experience encouraging team work and serving as role model when leading and directing others

Education and Experience Preferred

Master’s degree

Minimum of 12 years’ technology management or large program leadership experience

Extensive application, product knowledge experience with skills, application(s) and function of the technology area being led

Subject Matter Expert understanding of applications supported with an advanced knowledge of interfacing/integrated applications

Understanding of multiple business area’s functions

Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities from a project management perspective

Experience with skills, application(s) and functions of the technology area

Good understanding of the Bank’s application framework

Aware of the Bank’s business plan and strategic objectives with ability to shape direction

Mastered knowledge and focus of the entire system and support projects outside of normal business-as-usual (BAU)
