Technical Lead - Agentic AI (Microsoft Stack)
Permanent | Sydney | $180k + Super + Bonus
An opportunity to join a high-visibility, greenfield Agentic AI program in a large Australian enterprise. This role is firmly embedded in a Microsoft-first environment, leveraging Azure AI capabilities to design and build next-generation, agent-based systems in a real-world enterprise setting.
The Opportunity: You’ll be one of the early hires in a newly formed team, working alongside a recently appointed Agentic AI Engineer to define how intelligent systems are built and scaled on the Microsoft ecosystem. This is a purely technical leadership role – not people management focused – where you’ll operate above senior engineer level, balancing hands‑on development with architectural ownership.
Responsibilities are split as follows:
- ~60% hands‑on engineering
- ~40% architecture, system design, and technical direction
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and build agent-based AI systems using Azure AI services
- Work extensively with Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, and Semantic Kernel
- Define architecture, patterns, and engineering standards for Agentic AI solutions
- Evaluate and evolve frameworks (including integration with tools like LangChain/LangGraph where appropriate)
- Deliver production‑grade AI systems within a Microsoft cloud‑native environment
- Influence the technical direction of a high‑profile AI initiative
What We’re Looking For
Core experience:
- Strong software engineering background (Python preferred)
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure (essential)
- Proven experience building with Azure OpenAI / Microsoft AI stack
- Experience designing and deploying production‑grade AI systems
- Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, and cloud‑native architecture within Azure
Highly regarded:
- Experience with Semantic Kernel, Copilot stack, or Microsoft AI ecosystem tools
- Exposure to agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph)
- Background in consulting, product engineering, or innovation‑led environments
