Tourism Consultant – Cooma, New South Wales – Part-time
Posted: 13/05/2026 • Closing Date: 24/05/2026 • Job Type: Permanent – Part Time • 24‑28 hrs per week (Monday to Friday 5‑7 hrs/day; Saturday & Sunday 5 hrs/day). Salary: $34.10 per hour plus 12% super (Grade 4 of the SMRC Salary System 2025‑2026).

Position Description
- Provide a professional, courteous and efficient service including provision of information to visitors face‑to‑face, online, telephone or email, sale of merchandise, ticketing and licences (Local Park passes, fishing) and other duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Work as part of a small team focused on delivering high‑quality customer service.
- Support visitor centre operations including daily weather readings, merchandise sales, brochure displays, visitation statistics, events calendar, social media, maintenance of tourism publications, website updates and facility booking key management.
- Liaise with local tourism businesses and attractions, surrounding Visitor Information Centres and tourism services.
- Maintain a welcoming and professional internal and external Visitor Centre appearance.
- Undertake work in a safe and efficient manner, maintaining currency in relevant training such as Work, Health and Safety.
- Conform to legislative requirements and apply Council policy to activities undertaken.
- Provide general administrative support for the Tourism team as required.
- Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence‑based decision‑making, enhance capability and optimise capacity.
- Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions.
- Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions.
- Work a 7‑day rotating roster and flexibility for job share for the right applicants.
About You
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the public, volunteers and other persons.
- Ability to work both unsupervised and as an active member of a team.
- Experience in cash handling, sales and balancing the same against receipts.
- High level of computer literacy, familiarity with desktop applications such as the Microsoft Office suite.
- Current Class C driver’s licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Sound knowledge of tourism‑related experiences and attractions in the Snowy Monaro region.
- Cert III in tourism events, hospitality, retail or relevant study or experience.
- Experience with MYOB POS retail and Canva design or similar.
- Knowledge and experience with social media platforms.
- Ability to organise business, social and/or civic functions.
