The Royal Women’s Hospital is the key site in Australia for advanced training in sexual and reproductive health. This fellowship is specifically designed to deliver all of the curriculum requirements for the RANZCOG Advanced Training Module or ATM in Contraception, Abortion and Sexual Health having run this ATM since its development in 2015.

Trainees will gain advanced skills in comprehensive provision of contraception, including complex medical care, adolescent consultations and perimenopausal contraception. In addition, trainees will become competent in medical and surgical abortion techniques across the first and second trimesters. Further exposure to and training in early pregnancy USS and management of complications is provided with the ability to obtain the CCPU qualification. The position is ideal for those trainees wishing to provide high quality contraception and abortion care as part of their obstetrics and gynaecology consultant practice.
The fellow position is offered separately from the Victoria RANZCOG SR match programme in recognition of the specific skill set and trainee interest that the ATM has been specifically designed for.
The rotation is for 6 months and comprises at least 2 contraception clinics, 2 operating lists per week plus additional family planning lists per fortnight. Supervised Early Pregnancy Scanning sessions are available twice per week with additional time available for a research project. The fellow will work within a multidisciplinary team which is well known for its supportive collaboration and teaching and the fellow will have multiple opportunities to expand particular interest such as sexual health, menopause, valvular disorders etc.
Experience / Qualifications / Competencies
- MB BS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or equivalent qualification
- Candidates who are accredited RANZCOG trainees are preferred.
- Medical Practitioner Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Minimum of four years accredited training experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
