Kingston Recruitment are delighted to be working with a well-established & local business within financial services to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a 6-month contract basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous finance experience to join a respected financial institution, supporting the day-to-day financial operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Assistant Accountant will support the finance function across a range of accounting and administrative activities, ensuring accuracy, transparency and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Accurately recording financial transactions and maintaining accounting records
  • Processing supplier invoices and maintaining accounts payable records
  • Performing bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  • Assisting with the preparation of financial and regulatory reports
  • Supporting month-end and year-end reporting processes
  • Assisting with payroll processing, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements
  • Maintaining organised and secure financial records in line with GDPR requirements
  • Reviewing and processing employee expenses in line with internal policies
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Providing administrative support to the finance team, including managing finance queries and meeting minutes
  • Assisting with the preparation of documentation for internal and external audits

About You

To be successful in this role you will ideally have experience working in a finance or accounting position and be comfortable working with financial data in a highly regulated environment.

Key requirements include:

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information
  • Experience within financial services, banking, or a regulated environment
  • Knowledge of FCA and PRA regulatory requirements
  • Payroll processing experience
  • Awareness of anti-money laundering (AML) and fraud prevention processes
