Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU night shift position requiring current NC or compact licensure and prior CVICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 22-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) within a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center
• Patient population includes surgical and medical cardiac critical care cases such as post-CABG, valve repairs, Impella, IABP management, and thoracic aortic aneurysms
• RN to patient ratio is 1:2
• Floating required within other critical care departments with ratios of 1:3 in PCU and 1:4 in Med/Surg
• Night shift schedule from 1830 to 0700 with every other weekend rotation
• No on-call responsibilities
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
• EMR is Epic; experience preferred
• Daily responsibilities include care for high-acuity cardiovascular surgical and medical patients with advanced monitoring and life-support equipment
• Support staff on the unit includes CNAs, a charge nurse, 24/7 RT and intensivist coverage, phlebotomy (nurse draw), and a 24-hour unit receptionist
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, and NxStage CRRT
• Orientation includes one week of general onboarding plus 2-3 days of departmental orientation
• Royal blue scrubs are required
• Unit culture is described as high acuity and fast-paced
• First-time travelers considered if qualified and experienced in CVICU
• Paid employee parking is available

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license
• Minimum of 1 year recent CVICU nursing experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Proficiency with post-cardiac assessment, circulatory support systems (IABP, IMPELLA, LVAD, ECMO), titration of vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medications, cardiac waveform interpretation, and hemodynamic monitoring
• Epic charting experience preferred
