Our Lenexa facility specializes in the production of Oxygen Life Support Systems and Galley Inserts Beverage Maker Products. Our Oxygen and Beverage Maker small parts assembly manufacturing focuses on safety and quality products production into the field for aircraft crew and passengers. 

 

As a leader in the aerospace industry, we are growing rapidly and have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Product Design Engineer in our Oxygen & PSU Systems business located in Lenexa, KS.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY 

The Product Design Engineer leads the planning, design and analysis of the construction and use of equipment and parts for aircraft cabin interiors. They routinely perform standard engineering assignments usually representing a significant portion of a larger project. With little supervision, they will select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment.
  • Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
  • Provides technical leadership to a small group of temporarily assigned engineers and technicians.
  • Ensures successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  • Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
  • Perform engineering calculations to determine the size and strength of components. Solve design problems and check computations contributing to analytical designs.
  • Evaluate materials and parts for use in new designs including communicating with current and new suppliers.
  • Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions and participate in design reviews.
  • Determines content of items required in support of costing estimates for proposals. This may include developing bills of materials, engineering hours, proto-type requirements, tooling requirements, non-recurring engineering, qualification and certification action requirements.
  • Serves as the focal individual regarding the input for the technical offering of systems and products in support of new proposals. This includes developing technical product specification and overall weight calculations for inclusion in proposals.
  • Writes and oversees the general overall technical content of the proposal including technical product descriptions and compliance matrix.
  • May direct lower level designers/drafters including work assignments and coordination.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • Three (3) years of relevant engineering design experience

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with design ownership of product life-cycle including initial concept through production and product support.
  • Experience with designing mechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability and maintainability.
  • Proficient in preparing, modifying and releasing drawings created in CAD (Unigraphics, Solidworks, Pro-E, and Catia) to verify fit, form and function of mechanical designs.
  • Ability to verify structural acceptability of designs by testing prototypes for reliability and FAA certification.
  • Utilize engineering tools such as FMEAs, FEA, and DFMA to validate design content.
  • Familiarity with mechanical designs involving pressurization, fluids or valves.
