Safety & Environmental Manager

Flex-O-Lators, a division of Leggett & Platt, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Safety and Environmental Manager. Based in Carthage, Missouri, this position is responsible for establishing and carrying out the Company’s culture of safety and environmentally conscious practices through program development, training, compliance, and recordkeeping.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of the Leggett & Platt SafeGuard Program targets and objectives
  • Work closely with Corporate Risk to ensure in compliance with all current SafeGuard requirements and initiatives
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify hazards and collaborate with branch leadership to institute risk avoidance measures
  • Responsible for meeting all reporting requirements
  • Directs development, maintenance, and achievement of goals and activities to drive company safety culture, compliance, and results while following SafeGuard guidelines
  • Develops and conducts training and learning opportunities aimed at growing employee understanding, ability and competency as it relates to safety and environmental objectives
  • Develops behavior based safety programs, and works collaboratively with all employees to create and promote a zero-hazard culture
  • Maintain ISO/OSHA regulatory compliance
  • Insure all corporate, local, state, and federal documentation requirements are met
  • Conduct regularly scheduled audits of safety equipment
  • Conduct environmental audits with external auditors
  • Tracking, follow up, and closeout of audit findings
  • Maintain Branch Safety and Environmental handbooks
  • Workers’ Compensation claim submission, tracking, and remediation
  • Perform any other duties required in pursuance of the function of this position or as directed
  • Ensure compliance with the environmental policy and procedures and with the requirements of the environmental management system


    Skills Required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in leading Environmental, Health, and Safety programs within a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comprehension of industry, national, state, and local EHS requirements
  • Adept at utilization of company-wide electronic reporting system
  • Ability to lead and support cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency using formal problem solving methods (e.g. 8D) to identify root cause and drive corrective action
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills
