Job Summary
This person will be responsible for conducting biomedical engineering projects, facilities management and participation in engineering collaborative efforts and outreach for the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute Congenital Heart Center. Supervises technical and clinical research staff and assists the Director in the management of major research efforts.

 

Primary Functions

  • Works with key stakeholders to co-develop technologies focusing on pediatric and adult innovations
  • Develops clinical workflows for the 3D printing program
  • Develops business models for patient-specific 3D printed and virtual models
  • Builds and maintains the database of patient outcomes associated with the 3D printing program
  • Represents the 3D program by attending and presenting at regional and national conferences
  • Mentors biomedical engineering and other trainees, as needed
  • Develops and monitors program budget
  • Actively seeks grants and other funding sources to maintain financial balance
  • Liaises with all corporate and academic colleagues on biomedical engineering research projects
  • Assists in development of research protocols including writing drafts, conducting literature reviews, and reporting results to internal and external collaborators
  • Follows all policies and procedures in the conduct of human subject research as directed by investigators and the Director, Sanger Clinical Research
  • Prepares applications, manuscripts, presentations, abstracts, and reports
  • Utilizes engineering training and expertise to develop and improve devices for medical/surgical intervention, interfaces, and data collection
  • Promotes the program both internally and externally

 

Physical Requirements
Able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally. Position also requires some extended periods of sitting and computer usage. Periodic travel to remote sites required.

 

Additional Training and Certifications

  • 3D printing experience required
  • Cardiovascular experience preferred

 

Education, Experience and Certifications.
BSC in Biomedical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience or MSC in Biomedical Engineering required. Previous experience in engineering research or product/device development preferred. Knowledge of material testing systems and common machining system preferred.
