Certified Pharmacy Tech - University Job


Summary

The LD Pharmacy Tech is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of Pharmacy Technician operational activities through the Pharmacy Department and the hospital in accordance with professional and MLH standards of practice.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.

Atleast two years actively practicing as a Certified Pharmacy Tech

Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). 

State Board of  Pharmacy registration required in the state where work is performed

 

PREFERRED:

College degree or experience in a management or leadership role

At least five (5) years CPhT experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of the information necessary to:

              1)   perform complex pharmaceutical calculations;

              2)   practice within the established role for pharmacy technicians in organized health care settings;

              3)   effectively use medical terminology, drug nomenclature, symbols and abbreviations associated with pharmacy practice;

              4)   explain the operation of the drug distribution system in organized health care settings;

              5)   explain basic pharmacology and pharmacologic principles;

              6)   understand aseptic technique. 

  • Ability to:

              1)   perform complex pharmaceutical calculations;

              2)   practice within the established role for pharmacy technicians in organized health care settings;

              3)   use medical terminology, drug nomenclature, symbols and abbreviations associated with pharmacy practice;

              4)   complete technical functions of the drug distribution system for organized health care settings;

              5)   apply basic pharmacology and pharmacologic principles;

              6)   prepare sterile products;

              7)   complete order entry procedures. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Directs and monitors workflow of other technicians in conjunction with Ld Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager.

  • Assists in hiring and training of new Associates.

  • Assists Pharmacy Administration in planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling activities and operations for pharmacy services throughout the department and the hospital.

  • Assists Pharmacy Administration in development and implementation of plans to control costs and improve area operations.

  • Assists Pharmacy Administration in leadership, in maintaining productive efficient workflow, and in promoting cooperation among individuals and groups.

Physical Requirements

  • Non-invasive patient contact.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate both orally and written to other individuals.

  • Normal or corrected-to-normal hearing and vision, including color vision, required.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs. periodically throughout shift.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat and kneel periodically throughout shift.

  • Ability to reach, bend and twist periodically throughout shift.

  • Ability to have good balance and coordination.

  • Ability to use hands for gripping and squeezing, as well as repetitive hand and wrist motion.
