Hydraulics Engineer

Created in February 2014 through a 50/50 joint venture of the world’s largest and second largest steelmakers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, AM/NS Calvert is located in Calvert, AL.  Our state-of-the-art steel processing facility has the capacity to process 5.3 million tons of high-value steel grades including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products for the automotive, pipe and tube, appliance/HVAC, service center and construction industries in the NAFTA market.  

AM/NS Calvert products are marketed in NAFTA through managing joint venture partner ArcelorMittal.

 

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for mechanical engineering assignments as part of a centralized engineering team focused on customer support of production mills site wide. Responsible for engineering calculations, engineering studies, inspections, and identifying solutions for hydraulic, rotating, thermal, and mechanical production equipment.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:        

  • Diagnoses malfunctions in hydraulic products and systems and recommends corrective actions.
  • Problem solving related to mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal equipment
  • Results oriented related to identifying and implementing solutions
  • Perform pressure and flow sizing calculations based on machinery motion requirements.
  • Develop and implement world class hydraulic maintenance and management programs
  • Collaborate with reliability group to develop and implement preventative maintenance work instructions.
  • Prepare engineering cost estimates for utility related projects
  • Design hydraulic power and control systems for custom industrial machinery and test stands using various types of design/drafting software.

EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. Proven experience (8+ years of experience) in Engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Steel Manufacturing Experience highly desired.
  • Professional Engineer or on track to achieve licensure desired.

 

KNOWLEDGE:    

  • Ability to perform thermal fluids calculations and equipment sizing
  • Lubrication systems including condition monitoring and analysis techniques.
  • Industry standards such as ASME, STLE, ICML or others.
  • Industry 4.0
  • Read and interpret equipment design drawings                   

 

SKILLS: 

  • Excellent communications skills working with both professionals and construction trades.
  • General Microsoft Office and computer skills
  • Fast Paced Manufacturing Environment
  • Technical Writing
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Interest and ability to work at our site location in Calvert, Alabama

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office Environment/ Plant environment. Required to wear personal protective equipment.       

                    

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
