Network Engineer

Controls Network Engineer Scope of PositionThe Controls Network Engineer will be responsible for supporting the network infrastructure of the electrical control systems within the manufacturing facility. Modern day control systems are increasingly utilizing Ethernet based networks for communications between PLCs and devices. This role will include leading projects to upgrade and optimize this network infrastructure and serve as a consultant for the rest of the controls engineering team for these IT systems.Day to Day Responsibilities: • Maintain an accurate network map of control systems within the facility.• Assist controls engineers and technicians with the troubleshooting of network related issues. Ensure high availability of controls IT systems.• Investigate opportunities to optimize network traffic flow and eliminate reoccurring issues.• Support software services that are integrated with the controls network. This includes OPC systems, data collection, HMI servers, and other Rockwell FactoryTalk services platforms.• Actively lead or participate during the design, fabrication, acceptance testing, installation and start-up phases of controls related projects.• Implement network monitoring techniques to allow for fundamental understanding of network traffic and issues when they occur.• Work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, operations and maintenance staff to support manufacturing processes and equipment.• Support data collection systems and work with users to gather requirements for production needs.• Provide ownership of automated backup and compare utility for software version management software.• Project receivership for new control systemsTravel Requirements:
  • You can expect less than 10% travel.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:Your typical work schedule will be 8-5pm M-F although you should expect to have flexibility to support project assignments including overtime. Required Education and Experience:

You should have a Bachelor’s Degree (Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science highly preferred) along with 5+ years of industry experience as well as:

• Technical background in Engineering or Information Technology• Ability to troubleshoot network issues, strong troubleshooting skills• Proficiency with network monitoring techniques• Design of Ethernet network systems• Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical circuits• Programming skills• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating systems• Project leadership skills• Experience in a manufacturing environment• Strong organizational skills

 

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of PLCs, preferably Allen-Bradley Family

• Ability to program ladder logic

• Experience developing HMIs

• Database experience (SQL)

• Electrical design and troubleshooting skills

• Experience with FANUC Robots

• Knowledge of OSI PI or RSLinx (or other OPC services)

• Project management Soft Skills:
