Plant Manager - Fremont, NE

Position Summary

The Plant Manager is required to develop and maintain the skills and knowledge necessary to competently and safely perform all of the duties in these specific areas: mixer truck driver, central and plant dispatcher, batch person, QC technician, sales and service, production and delivery equipment preventative maintenance, loader/forklift operator and basic production and delivery safety responsibilities. Other production related duties may be assigned. This is a salaried position.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Candidate may be required to maintain a Class “B” CDL or higher with air brake endorsement to operate a ready mixed concrete truck and will be required to certify on and operate other plant production equipment.
  • Communicates with Area Manager on issues affecting personnel, safety, maintenance, production efficiency, product quality, current and upcoming projects, competition and pricing.
  • Works with Area Manager to ensure the safest and most efficient use of personnel is being utilized to complete all required tasks.
  • Assist Area Manager with supervising production employees as directed while adhering to all applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and meets customer order delivery times according to factors such as truck capacities, distances to delivery site, and fleet availability.
  • Enters and adjusts orders utilizing the dispatch system.
  • Works with Area Manager to coordinate the opening and closing of plants according to established company procedures and guidelines.
  • Works with Area Manager to determine and communicate production employee work schedules and enter daily payroll time.
  • Works with Area Manager to maintain appropriate inventory levels at their assigned plant.
  • Works within city, state, and federal compliance regulations.
  • Ensures that equipment and facilities are properly maintained through preventative and proactive maintenance.
  • Is trained to competently perform and document plant and equipment inspections including; pre/post trip, bag house, TRI, stormwater, and fuel reporting requirements.
  • Works with the Quality Control Department to ensure products meet production specifications.
  • Assess production team performance and assists Area Manager in identifying employees with potential.
  • Assists in training personnel to operate and maintain plant production, testing and delivery equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with customers and provides friendly assistance in guiding customers through the order and change order process.
  • Communicates effectively and provides friendly assistance to production and delivery team, Sales and Service, QC, Central Dispatch, Safety and HR personnel.
  • Conducts weekly plant safety meetings and other employee correspondence as required.
  • Competent in the operation of batch and dispatch systems to dispatch and produce ready mix concrete according to customer and company specifications.
  • Obtains and maintains ACI and IDOT certification as directed.
  • Performs required tests on produced products to ensure compliance with project specifications. Documents results and maintains plant testing and certification logs.
  • Communicates with Area Manager, Central Dispatch and other support departments in a timely manner to identify and resolve issues which might impact customer service.
  • Perform and document plant safety, production and compliance reporting.
  • Organizes and accounts for daily delivery and raw material tickets, fuel consumption and mileage sheets. Makes sure received raw materials are correctly logged in batch computers.
  • Receives and secures cash payments from drivers and reports them to the Area Manager.
  • Conducts month end inventory count and recounts.
  • Understands HOS requirements and dispatches/operates within these requirements.
  • Recognize, document and coach PPE use and other basic production and delivery safety issues. Promptly reports all safety and employee issues to Area Manager for review.
  • Works with Area Manager to address and resolve all observed employee performance and safety issues.
  • Works with Area Manager to complete and present written hourly employee reviews.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                                                  

  • Associates degree from two-year Community College or Technical School; or a minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Depending on reporting location a minimum class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement may be required.  As required, employee must meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and be released by LRC Safety Department to operate ready mix delivery trucks, loaders, and production equipment.

 

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

                                              

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills                                                             

  • A basic level of proficiency with Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word processing software is required.  Candidate must be capable of effectively communicating through e-mail.  Candidate must acquire and maintain a working knowledge of Command Alkon order entry, dispatch, batch and truck tracking systems.
