Job Description

We are excited to offer several 2019 summer internships to highly motivated students currently pursuing a degree in food science.  This role will be located on the campus of our new Global Headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina within our Innovation & Development group. The Sealed Air Internship program offers applied experience that has a true impact on the business. The program includes opportunity to present to senior leadership teams, participate in formal training, interact with members of other departments, and lead campus-wide community service events.  

 

As an intern you’ll have the opportunity to work in food packaging with projects directly supporting the Food Care Division. Projects will be designed such that your involvement will have a direct business impact. Projects may include working with various food products to optimize packaging for extended shelf life products, testing innovative packaging and testing technologies to give our customers a leading edge, identifying and resolving real customer issues, and interacting directly with various functional areas (Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Field Quality, Supply Chain), and learn material extrusion technologies. As an intern, you will be exposed to a variety of areas including:  

 

  • Analytical and microbiology techniques  

  • Fit for use material testing  

  • Food and material interactions and performance  

  • Extrusion techniques for Non-Shrink and Shrink Packaging  

  • Supply Chain Production Facilities  

  • Project Management techniques

This is a unique opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of packaging processes in the food industry, as well as learn the various extrusion technologies of plastic. You’ll work in a highly collaborative team environment and will have the ability to have direct influence on Sealed Air’s success. At the conclusion of the internship there is potential to be hired on as a full time employee within Sealed Air’s Applications Development & Support Innovation and Development Food Care Division.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities are highly specific to the project or assignment on which you would be working, but some of the responsibilities you may have during an internship at Sealed Air could include:  

  • Participation in team meetings and projects 

  • Preparation of reports and presentation of results to management 

  • Project management tracking of spend and timelines 

  • Brainstorming sessions to develop out of the box ideas 

  • Provide project support 

  • Deliver a final presentation to leadership covering project, outcome and experience 

Qualifications

  • Completed at least 3 years towards a Bachelor’s degree in animal science, meat science or dairy science   

  • Strong academic record with 3.0 or higher GPA  

  • Authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship  

  • Creative and a strong problem solver  

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision  

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
