Graduate Metallurgist, North America Region (Northern Nevada, Cripple Creek, CO)

Purpose

 

Newmont is seeking applicants for its signature Newmont Graduate Program (NGP), a challenging and enriching two-year rotational program that will introduce recent university graduates to the exciting career options available at the company.  NGP participants will build skills and relationships through rotations in different areas of the company and participation in a thoughtfully curated cohort program designed to jump-start a career in the mining industry. 

The NGP will enable you to:

  • Obtain practical experience and build skills specific to your technical discipline;
  • Gain wide-ranging exposure to areas outside of your technical discipline to develop a well-rounded understanding of Newmont and the mining industry more broadly;
  • Develop foundational leadership skills focused on knowing self, team membership and effective communication; and
  • Build your personal network by engaging with peers, employees, and leaders at all levels to deepen your understanding of Newmont’s business and the organization.

The NGP is designed for recent graduates with a strong work ethic, effective communication and teamwork skills, and a passion to grow their careers with Newmont.

 

 

 

Essential Duties

  • Review data and prepare recommendations, summaries, and cost estimates for consideration by senior engineers or ma
  • nagers.Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Using prescribed methods, perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment that require the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures in support of a mining operation.
  • Assist senior engineers as directed, while developing specialized engineering skills in areas including:
    • Crushing and Grinding
    • Mineral Separation and Flotation
    • Dewatering
    • Pyrometallurgy and Hydrometallurgy
    • Process Design
    • Process Control
    • Plant Experimentation
    • Laboratory Techniques
    • Sampling
    • Metallurgical Accounting and Mass Balancing
    • Computer Modelling and Simulation
    • Metallurgical Research and Analysis Techniques
    • Planning and Forecasting
    • Maintenance

Training & Experience

  • No previous experience necessary
  • Requires a B.S. Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Engineering (majoring in Chemical and Process Engineering or Materials Engineering)  
  • Technical skills learned at the university level are applied in the practical environment and developed through predominantly on-the-job training. Activities are defined with supervisor guidance and significant training before releasing to sole responsibility.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office, but will be required to access mining areas, rough terrain, or exploration sites on a daily basis.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural differences at the operations within the Company.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel possible.
