Sr. Director, Global Engineering



The Senior Manager role reports to the Director or Sr. Director. The position influences and supports business needs as outlined by the Director/Sr. Director and is responsible for managing one or more departments, multiple projects, and people.


Provides strategic leadership and decision making required to drive category innovation and/or departmental development. Assesses the strengths and opportunities of the organization and formulates plans for its growth and development. Models effective leadership behavior during times of change. Manages projects and ensures that project work and timelines integrate with cross-functional departments and business goals.



The essential accountability of this position is to supervise, coach and develop technical staff in work done in support of business needs and objectives. This will vary with the role and technical area. This colleague is accountable for:

  • Develop strategies and action plans required to meet business and departmental goals. Gain alignment of key stakeholders in the organization
  • Take risks, make timely decisions, and develop and execute contingency plans to mitigate risks
  • Lead one of more departments
  • Set departmental goals
  • Manage project and department budgets
  • Appropriately delegate tasks and responsibilities to direct reports
  • Execution of performance reviews (FFA) and establishment of direct reports’ developmental needs/goals
    • Provide training and support needed by direct reports to successfully carry out their roles
    • Support career development of direct reports
    • Give timely and constructive feedback on performance and behaviors to their direct reports
  • Make accurate assessments of the skill sets, strength, opportunities, and development need of their staff.  Communicates them effectively both upward to their manager as well as to their staff
  • Able to link and communicate departmental and individual’s goals with business objectives
  • A solid understanding of the subject matter pertaining to their product category
    • Strong analytical skills and technical judgment as applied to the transfer of equipment, globally, and capacity expansion
    • Effectively transfers knowledge and key skill sets critical to the department
    • Global role must be capable of working with all cultures and other departments/working relationships
  • Effective communication through excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, to both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Excellent cross-functional team member who values collaboration and inclusion of others. Has interpersonal skills, takes initiative, thinks and works independently, problem-solves, and communicates potential solutions to the team
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and follow up skills; manage multiple people and project/tasks simultaneously
  • Presentation of all information in a manner that is coherent and accurately reflects the results obtained in the research investigation
  • In-depth function understanding of technical tools that supports your function
  • Continually expands understanding and ability to apply insights and disciplines relevant to area of expertise and responsibility
  • Conducting all activities consistent with company and departmental policies and procedures




  • Formal education and experience in Science based field:
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years of applicable experience, or;
  • M.S. degree in a science field (Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Chemical, Psychology, Physics) with a minimum of 12+ years of applicable experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of direct or indirect supervisory experience required
  • Able to successfully lead organizations to attain departmental/business goals
  • Proven track record of developing others
  • Demonstrated proficiency at managing projects and people
  • Effectively manages people and organization during times of change
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking and decision making
  • Quality and/or Operations experience a plus, which includes supervisory position




  • Be aware of and follow the Environmental Policy and EH&S work instructions/procedures that apply to the job.
  • Perform every job safely, for the benefit of self, co-workers, contractors, and for the protection of facilities.  This includes the use of required personal protective equipment and use of safety equipment as well as safe work practices.

  • Review Material Data Sheet instructions before working with any chemical product.
