COUNSELOR


The counselor will provide individual and group counseling and case management to individuals receiving integrated substance abuse treatment and primary care services at the Montefiore Medical Center. Provision of substance abuse counseling to individuals, groups, and families. Counseling focusing on building motivation, educating, planning crisis intervention, relapse prevention and aftercare. Perform preliminary screening regarding mental health needs of patients on caseload (i.e. presence of psychiatric symptoms, suicidality, homicidality etc.) Maintain required records on patients and updates progress notes as required.  Ensures clinical chart   contains necessary information regarding patient’s status and other information required by the program policies and regulatory agencies.  Completes all required forms and treatment plans.May perform other duties as assigned.  Bachelor's degree required.  This is a Grant Funded position.

 

Education and Requirements:

Must have one of the following licenses or certifications at all times in order to work:
1) CASAC
2) CASAC-T
3) MSW with license or limited permit before the end of the probationary period
4) MHC with license or limited permit before the end of probationary period
5) MFT with license or limited permit before the end of probationary period
6) CAT with license or limited permit before the end of probationary period

Computer skills, including the ability to type 25 wpm and to utilize Outlook and Microsoft Word.  One year of experience in addiction counseling.
