Engineering Services Buyer

Function Overview:
The Buyer of Engineering Services at Whirlpool leads the sourcing process for acquiring professional services required by the Corporation to successfully develop its Product and Innovation Global Strategies. This role requires strong communication and negotiation skills to enable effective collaboration with the Global Product Organization and strategic service providers. The average annual spend managed under this function is $50M including categories such as product certification, prototyping, engineering consulting, outsourced design, lab equipment, and others minor related to Engineering Services.

The individual performing this role will have the opportunity to create and develop specific sourcing strategies, lead sourcing projects, drive continuous improvement plans and actively participate in corporate strategic initiatives. This position has high visibility and interaction with Senior Leaders, Global Strategic Sourcing and Global Product Platforms teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute relevant supplier, sourcing and negotiation strategies maximizing benefits for Whirlpool.
  • Develop and manage business relationships between Whirlpool and its engineering services providers. Key related activities: Supplier selection and development; Pricing, terms, conditions, and contract negotiation; Disputes resolution; Continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives; Purchase Orders approval and management.
  • Develop synergic relationships with process partners across multiple organization levels within Whirlpool. Actively challenge the status quo and drive change towards improving efficiency and maximizing resource utilization.
  • Acquire a holistic view of the different industries, business, and functions supported by Indirect Procurement as a tool to consistently add value in executing and delivering key initiatives for Whirlpool.
  • Consistently deliver and exceeds targets related to savings, service levels, and quality.
  • Assure compliance and actively support risk management policies and actions.
  • Adhere and enforce policies, processes and best practices related to the sourcing function eliminating, mitigating and/or minimizing risks for Whirlpool.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Procurement or Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience in Procurement, Supply Chain or Engineering Services


Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience and/or knowledge related to Engineering Services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in basic data analytics, Google suite
  • Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and/or e-sourcing tools
  • Successful experience in commercial areas (sales or procurement)
  • Spanish speaking skills preferred
