R&D Engineer

B/E Aerospace's Oak Plaza operations are comprised of the core enabling functions, including: Engineering, Research & Development, Program Management, Product Support, Strategic Supply Chain, Sales & Marketing, Quality, Finance and Human Resources. Together these functional teams collaborate to help engineer the most innovative and highest quality main cabin economy, premium aircraft seating, and super first class suites for various customers around the globe.

 

As a leader in the aerospace industry, we have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a R&D Design Engineer in our Seating Products business located in Winston-Salem, NC

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide technical support to new team members.
  • Ensure that the models generated by the design engineers working on their projects are following B/E's best practices.
  • Ensure that the drawings generated by the design engineers working on their projects list the necessary information.
  • Manage master models (including Top-Down design structure).
  • Coordinate with FEA group.
  • Conduct DFMA review.
  • Conduct design review.
  • Manage test builds.
  • Manage preliminary testing.
  • Manage weight/cost matrices.
  • Request production quotes.
  • Generate Build of Materials (BoMs).

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university; and at least three years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with CAD software such as Unigraphics, Solidworks, Pro-E and/or Catia. Experience using and/or willingness to learn and use Unigraphics required.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

 

  • Prior experience in the design of mechanical systems specifically for commercial aircraft seating products.
  • Experience designing composite parts from materials/processes such as carbon, glass, Kevlar, pre-pregs, compression molding, RTM and crush core molding.
  • Experience with FEA packages.
  • Experience with Teamcenter.
  • Experience working with NX 9.0 or higher.
  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Experience with top-down design processes.
  • Experience designing stamped metal, injection molded parts.
  • Experience using NX/Unigraphics for advanced surfacing techniques.

 

Key Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
