Responsibilities

You will partner with the Government to ensure Mission Success of the Air Force Remote Sensing Systems Directorate (RS) to develop, acquire and deploy Next generation OPIR space assets that that will bring increased performance and resilence to the nation's critical OPIR Missile Warning (MW) mission. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide the Government with systems engineering expertise as a member of the Aerospace Space Based Remote Sensing Division. You will be a critical resource in the discovery and implementation of SMC 2.0 and acceleration of assets to orbit.  The Project Engineer's primary focus will be to serve as SBIRS Next Gen Block 0 Geosynchronous Orbit Satellite System Engineer.

 

Key Functions

  • Work with contractors, government team which includes the AF customers SETA, and Engineering & Technology Group (ETG) supports to perform:
    • Requirement flowdown, derivation/allocation and performance verification
    • Space to ground interface and compliance documents (space-to-ground, bus-to-payload) tailoring
    • Space system CONOPS planning
    • Bus/PL and Aux PL IRD definition
    • Reqts (TRD, GEO vs HEO) derivation and justification
    • RFPs and SOWs tech evaluation
    • Risk, data, test, and configuration management
  • Support Government decision making process by suppling sound and coordinated technical information
  • Monitor, assess and report progress on the system design status and process
  • Participate in all system and subsystem design reviews
  • Support cost, schedule and technical risk assessments

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, mathematics or related technical field
  • 12 or more years of experience that includes aerospace industry experience, preferably in space systems
  • Experience with commercial or military space vehicle system engineering and design process
  • Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, contractors, other FFRDC, SETA personnel, or related
  • Experience speaking and presenting technical and status material to senior leadership/customers such as DoD and other US government officials
  • Experience in building teams and leading projects to successful conclusion 
  • Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI
  • Some travel is required
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in science and engineering preferred
  • Experience in leading projects and conducting risk management in a rapid aquisition environment
  • Familiarity with hardware development, integration and testing at major space system suppliers
  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance
