Shipping & Receiving Clerk

PURPOSE:

To ship, receive, and deliver supplies, materials and equipment, and maintain inventory control and records; perform related work.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):

  • Receive incoming materials and enter them into computer system.
  • Distribute incoming materials to proper locations.
  • Prepare and ship packages.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Pickup and deliver items when required.
  • Prepare bill of lading for shipments.
  • Support the shipment of equipment produced and the received goods and supplies to be used in or to aid in the production/storage of goods destined for sale to our customer base.
  • Responsible to make arrangements for pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order which is conveyed to the shipping clerk by final inspection via the shipping instructions.
  • Must report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Keeps adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times.
  • Required to forward a requisition for shipping materials to the Department Supervisor for approval.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Travels to designated locations to pick up and deliver packages.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School, GED, Vocational High School, Technical College, or equivalent work experience
  • 1-2 years of shipping/receiving background and experience 
  • General Computer Aptitude.
  • Organizational Skills.
  • Familiarity with and ability to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
  • Ability to fill out bills of lading
  • Ability to estimate weight and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
  • Familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
  • Familiar with the most common material handling equipment and be a licensed forklift truck operator.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Must have a working knowledge of part numbers and part usage and understand applications for use.
