Lubrizol Advanced Materials, a subsidiary of The Lubrizol Corporation, has an immediate need for a Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSES) Specialist at our Brecksville, OH location.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Reporting to the HSES Supervisor, the HSES Specialist spends approximately 70-80% of their workday in the field (at the Brecksville site).

 

The HSES Specialist will, in coordination with the HSES Supervisor, provide guidance related to health, safety, environmental and security issues. He/she will interact and work with the R&D, internal and contracted maintenance and engineering departments, and other internal clients, to provide technical support related to regulatory compliance and the development of practical solutions related to occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, training, fire protection, emergency management, security, and recordkeeping.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers site safety programs
  • Participates in hazard assessment activities including safety inspections, issuing permits, process safety reviews, and monitoring contractors
  • Develops and conducts HSES training for employees, contractors and visitors
  • Attends and participates in safety meetings and inspections
  • Maintains safety equipment
  • Coordinates and participates in site emergency planning, drills and incident responses
  • Evaluates new chemicals for approval
  • Administers site SDS system
  • Provides technical support to site management and contractors regarding HSES regulations and Lubrizol standards
  • Prepares updates to site safety policies and programs
  • Participates in site environmental programs
  • Conducts regular environmental inspections
  • Assists in preparing regulatory permits and reports
  • Maintains recordkeeping as required by regulations and company policy
  • Serves as a point of contact for internal and external audits and inspections
  • Perform duties related to site RC14001 Responsible Care Management System (RCMS)
  • Performs and/or assists with plant wide and departmental safety and health audits
  • Assists with corrective actions from internal/external audits, inspections, visits
  • Participates in incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Works with R&D personnel to improve processes
  • Maintains and prepares updates to site environmental and emergency response plans
  • Serves as site emergency response team member
  • Supports site industrial hygiene programs
    • Performs some personnel and area exposure monitoring for noise, hazardous chemicals, etc.
    • Conducts ergonomic evaluations and respirator fit tests
  • Supports site security functions
    • Coordinates with security department to ensure safety and security of visitors, contractors and employees
    • Performs visitor safety briefings and answers questions on visitor safety and security

 

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Processes HSES department invoices
  • Performs purchasing duties for routine HSES supplies and equipment
  • Performs weekend work and on call responsibilities as needed
  • Takes the lead on specific projects or programs as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

 

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in HSE, science, engineering or other technical field
  • Minimum of (6) six months HSES experience.  Intern and co-op experience considered
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize based on risk
  • Must be able to move and lift 40 pounds
  • Must be medically fit to wear a negative pressure respirator and other required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills

 

CONSIDERED A PLUS:

  • DOT/RCRA/IATA/HAZWOPER/CPR/AED Certified
  • OSHA 30-Hr trained
  • Proficiency in SharePoint
