The Design Engineer for the R&D team creates and delivers brand relevant technologies to the Oakley Product roadmap. The Design Engineer for the R&D team’s core role is product innovation, meaningful consumer benefits and timely execution. The Design Engineer emphasizes on mechanical and structural development through rapid iteration.


  • Designs and engineers solutions to mechanical/structural problems.
  • Executes concept testing and prototype builds to quickly iterate on ideas; fail fast and learn faster.
  • Conducts critical analysis of existing technology to engineer new solutions.
  • Works with other cross functional groups to develop new technologies and solutions.
  • Interprets data/test results and develops action plans.
  • Works on multiple project schedule coordination and tracking within a fast paced product development environment.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.


  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Engineering Degree
  • 2+ years engineering experience, with focus on creative problem solving for consumer products
  • Experience with plastics and plastics processing
  • CAD surfacing, packaging and assembly experience
  • Time management skills with good planning and judgment to accomplishing goals within challenging deadlines
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, ability to complete project goals with minimal supervision with high attention to details and quality of work
  • Hands-on experience building/fabricating prototypes for testing/user feedback
  • Wide experience using rapid/additive prototyping methods
  • Outside the box thinker with a documented history of problem solving
  • Motivated self-starter, with the ability to accomplish goals autonomously within a team environment
  • Strong coordination, verbal and written communication and people skills
  • Computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word


  • Experience other advanced materials
  • ProE/Creo familiarity
  • Multi industry experience and wearable electronic enclosure design
