The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) District 5 Maintenance Office (Anne Arundel) is recruiting for a District Operations Engineer (Transportation Engineering Manager I) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualification* listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy, and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification in the District 5 Maintenance Office (Anne Arundel).

This is a managerial, administrative and supervisory position which functions as the District Maintenance Contract, Environmental Compliance Manager, and Procurement Staff Manager for the Southern Areas of District Five. This position manages the Transportation Engineering Maintenance contract Program for the District and monitors the overall District maintenance operations budget. It requires advanced knowledge in the development, procurement and administration of more than $15 million in annual highway, bridge and capital facility maintenance contracts. This position manages and coordinates the work assignments for a 2 person SHA inspection staff and an additional 1 consultant, setting standards and providing quality assurance reviews for the inspection staff, resolves personnel conflicts between team members and/or contractor's personnel, assists the Assistant District Engineer in the development of policies and procedures relating to the District inspection staff, coordinates resolutions to design and scheduling conflicts between the various design divisions and contractors, manages numerous individual maintenance contracts and advises and supports the various Project Engineers assigned to the District Maintenance Division. This position also functions as a direct assistant to the Assistant district Engineer for Maintenance, and in his absence serves as a liaison between the District Engineer, Resident Maintenance Engineers and other agencies. This position is responsible for the management of the District's Bridge Department in the everyday event of structure repair, maintenance and rehabilitation. This position is responsible for the District's Compliance Focused Environmental Management System Program.
