Investment Performance Analyst

Role Value Proposition: 

Global Investments Operations is responsible for providing trade support for all general account investing activities, delivering all aspects of operational support for the derivative portfolio, serves as the Investments data governance steward providing required reporting needs, coordinating large-scale global programs and work-flow redesign activities, managing the performance of our external vendor relationships; and managing budgets and efficiency programs. The group is also responsible for business development, marketing, media relations and communications programs that promote MetLife’s investments franchise in the marketplace.


MetLife Investments is searching for a Performance Analyst to join the Performance and Attribution team in Whippany, NJ.  The candidate will be responsible for supporting and analyzing return information for MetLife Investment Management’s third-party clients as well as certain general account portfolios.  Individual will need to interact and review results with portfolio managers and potentially clients.  Analysis will focus on total rate of returns calculations, composites, and position level returns for attribution.  The individual will also contribute to projects related to system functionality and data integrity.  The performance and attribution team is part of MetLife’s Operations department.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze performance and attribution results and communicate with respective portfolio managers, including third party clients (MIM)
  • Maintain GIPS composites
  • Create and maintain monthly performance track records
  • Troubleshoot and correct inaccurate data in a timely manner
  • Develop reporting capabilities in the performance measurement applications


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 5 to 8 years’ experience in working in investment management operations, with a focus on security valuation, portfolio accounting, or performance measurement
  • Solid understanding of performance drivers in one or more of the following areas: fixed income, real estate equity, and derivatives securities
  • Experience with Structured Finance products
  • Basic understanding of GIPS Performance Presentation Standards
  • Strong analytical and quantitative reasoning skills
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and concepts



  • Undergraduate degree in a technical, mathematical, or financial field
  • Graduate MBA
  • Excellent computer skills: knowledge of MS Excel-Expert Level, familiarity with commercial performance software (such as Point, FactSet)
