The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and the National Council for Black Studies (NCBS) are accepting applications for a Coordinator of Special Projects & Programs.  This position is seated in the Department of Africana Studies at UC will work with the National Council for Black Studies to increase the membership base and handle all services to member institutions.  This position will also work with the Department of Africana Studies as determined by the Department Head.


The job duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Data entry management – analyze data  and reports
  • Account management - accounts payable, accounts receivables, and all bank related activities, foundation accounts, and NBUF Grants.
  • Marketing – primary base of all email correspondence between executive leadership, board of directors, and NCBS membership (email blasts). Must also produce quarterly electronic newsletters and maintain membership database system.
  • NCBS Annual Conference Management – Handle all meeting planner duties.  Coordinate annual conference of the NCBS.  Act as conference liaison with hotel personnel, handle management of all registration, and advertising, as well as other duties that may be requested by executive leadership, such as correspondence with speakers, registrants, etc.
  • Perform clerical tasks for the International Journal of Africana Studies
    • Correspond with contributors and subscribers
    • Mail journals to subscribers
    • Make minor edits when necessary
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need


The successful candidate must have the ability to work within time constraints, meet deadlines, multitask and have a demonstrated ability to complete assigned duties with little direct supervision.  The employee hired for this role must have knowledge of money handling procedures, organizational and human relations skills, as well as excellent communication skills (verbal and written).  Required computer skills  include knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), QuickBooks or Quicken, and website management.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with five (5) years of experience; -OR- seven (7) years of experience. Experience must be in coordinating projects and/or programs.
