Job Purpose

 

The incumbent will provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to a group of other individuals (the team) for the purpose of achieving a key result or group of aligned results and  identify and execute business applications support improvement opportunities.

The incumbent is going to manage a team of application support specialist, who provide application level support for a suite of mission-critical Global Banking and Market applications (both production and non-production), on a global basis.

The incumbent should posses advanced technical skills to resolve complex technical issues.

This role will be responsible for working directly with team members and various business partners to identify, define, assess and implement improvement initiatives aimed at greater efficiency or effectiveness. 

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Provide production and user acceptance testing  support  to assigned applications by scheduling support staff, and assisting  support staff in identifying, evaluating, escalating and resolving problems. The incumbent is required to provide afterhours support to staff to assist with problem resolution, escalation and ensure that systems are operational according to user service level agreements.

Implement new systems or enhancements by reviewing current production environments, establishing and executing  test procedures, assist with the development of implementation plans, scheduling resources, developing the required documentation and ensuring all functionality has been delivered as required. The incumbent is also required to provide post implementation support to our customers.

Effectively manage and supervise staff by providing work plans, setting performance objectives, monitoring performance, providing feedback including the preparation of performance appraisals on time. The incumbent is also required to assist in recruiting qualified staff, providing coaching, counselling and training to staff and providing backup support to Management or Project Manager as required.

Ensure the department's objectives are met by providing technical guidance to team members, providing input to the department's technical standards, keeping current on rapidly changing technological trends, self teach new technologies, maintaining an understanding of the Division's business and technology strategies.

 

Functional Competencies

 

  • The incumbent must have a good understanding of project implementation and production support as well as Unix/Linux based computing environments.
  • The incumbent must have good analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills in order to develop and support systems to meet user requirements.
  • The incumbent must be creative and flexible in identifying technical solutions to resolve business problems in a rapidly changing, demanding and complex business environment.
  • The incumbent must have a detailed understanding of the systems he/she is responsible for.
  • The incumbent must be a good leader with good time management and organizational skills in order to deliver projects in a timely manner and deal with conflicting priorities and tight deadlines within the dynamic environments we are responsible for.
  • The incumbent must have good interpersonal and communication skills in order to deliver proposals, provide user support and interact with team members and other departments.
  • The incumbent must have a good understanding of project management methodology.
  • The incumbent must have a good knowledge of the following technical skills:
  • ION WallStreet Systems (WSS)
  • system analysis and design
  • multiple operating platforms (Unix, Linux, Windows)
  • networking, and communications technologies
  • database - Oracle, Sybase
  • version Control tools such as SVN/GIT/TFS
  • A good understanding of products and workflows used by supported business lines is also required along with a good knowledge of the Banks products, services, market trends, computer services, planning and control tools and organizational structure.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • A degree in computer science or a related designation is desired.
