Physician - Palliative Care

JOB SUMMARY

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is actively recruiting Palliative Care Physicians to join our team.  In this position, you will serve as a consultant in a large pediatric healthcare system as part of a large and high-functioning interdisciplinary team. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate in the development of the pediatric palliative care program at Children’s; in programmatic initiatives aimed at improving care for children with serious illnesses; in educational programs centered on pediatric palliative care competencies; as well as participate in research, quality, and performance improvement initiatives.

We will consider candidates that are early, mid, or late-career path and are Hospice and Palliative Medicine Board Certified/Eligible.  Two or more years of experience in pediatric palliative care and/or another primary clinical discipline is desirable. Experience in education, program development, or research is also desirable.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited, four-year medical school.
  • Graduate of an accredited, post-graduate residency program in Pediatrics.
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff.

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Board certified/eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  •  Licensed/eligible to practice medicine in the state of Georgia
  • Current DEA registration
  • BLS certification is required
  • PALS or NRP certification

EXPERIENCE*

  • No minimum experience required

  • Experience in respective clinical area

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Provides palliative and related medical care which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children’s policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in and incorporates Quality Improvement and research findings into practice.
  3. Provides and/or serves as a palliative care resource for peers, patient/family and staff education.
  4. Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner.
  5. Completes necessary documentation and ensures communication to facilitate patent care and appropriate reimbursement.
  6. Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area.
  7. Participates in activities that enhance professional development, complete and maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS (by 12/31/01) and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned.
  8. Performs other responsibilities as required.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
