Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Manager Development, the DevOps Engineer will ensure system reliability, availability and continual value added for our Business clients.

 

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for the support of multiple applications concurrently & must ensure high availability, integrity and reliability of programs developed where the consequence of error could expose the Bank to inaccurate executive reporting and financial statements. Effective analysis, design, development, implementation and support of mission critical, risk management and decision support systems of medium to high complexity.  Ability to react quickly to assist in resolving technical problems and work overtime on occasion to meet regulatory bank deadlines and implement systems is key.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Actively participate in the requirements, design and build phases; delivering high quality deliverables.
  • Provide DevOps support to risk reporting systems
  • Assist with planning and execution of unit, integration and user acceptance testing.
  • Ensure delivery of solutions within the stipulated timelines. Adapt to changing timelines and achieving efficient deliveries.
  • Provide technical expertise and ownership of technical solutions.
  • Collaborate and team with clients, partners, and colleagues on client sites with a continual focus on Customer Success.
  • Provide recommendations on standards surrounding systems architecture, application development, systems integration, data modelling, and testing.
  • Perform reviews and walkthroughs of all major project deliverables to ensure the quality and completeness of functionality, meeting high availability, integrity and reliability requirements.
  • Keep current on rapidly changing technological trends, self-teach new technologies and maintain an understanding of the Division's business and technology strategies.
  • Provides guidance and training to less experienced analysts and programmers.

 

Functional Competencies:

  • Must have 5+ years of progressive practical experience in developing and deploying complex technology is essential; along with maintenance & support on production environments.
  • Must have hands-on technical working experience with the following technical currencies:
    • ETL tools such as: Informatica, SAS and DataStage within relational databases (DB2, Windows, Linux)
    • ASP.NET, Windows Services, SQL Server Management Studio (versions 2015 or higher), SSIS
    • UNIX & Windows Shell Scripting, & SQL queries/statements.
    • Knowledge in data migration or batch processing with Python, Scala.
    • Must have hands-on technical working experience with system analysis, design, coding, debugging & testing.
    • Working experience with performance monitoring tools.
    • Broad understanding and knowledge of the financial industry’s products, services, market trends, computer services, planning and control tools and its organized structure is an asset.
    • Technical working knowledge with Beeline SQL is an asset.
  • Experience implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines (e.g. GIT, Mavern, Jenkins).
  • Must have experience in troubleshooting application performance issues at different levels (Application, Database, Network, etc.)
  • Excellent business / technical writing and communication skills with ability to articulate in a clear, concise, confident, persuasive and compelling manner under pressure and deadlines
  • SDLC Experience with Agile methodology and familiar with scrum meetings and sprint planning.
  • Leadership and ownership of the work. As 2nd level support, OT will be needed if there is production issues.
  • Working experience with ETL refactoring code: Datastage and Talend
  • Experience with public cloud solutions like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience in the administration of build tools for continuous integration (e.g. GIT, Maven, Jenkins, Bamboo, and Nexus)
  • Familiarity with container-based virtualization technology such as Docker
  • Experience with Java EE, JSP/Servlets, Java Frameworks, Java Performance tuning

 

Education/Experiences:

  • A bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering is desirable, along with at least 5 - 7 years technical work experience and project delivery
  • Demonstrates understanding of agile software development methodologies, values, and practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and client relation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives
  • Technical designations/formal training an asset
