Validation Engineer - System Level (2018)


Nexteer Automotive is looking for a validation engineer to interface with our customer.  The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of mechanical design principles, manufacturing technologies and test methodologies.  This position will involve all facets of product development including: specification negotiation with the customer, test development, product testing, investigation of engineering issues with new products and launch of products to the customer.  The candidate will be responsible for execution of these activities across a global customer and test facility footprint.

 

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary system validation engineering interface to the customer
  • Support customer program implementation activities as required
  • Lead all Validation discussions at PDT meetings
  • Develop test plans that are specific to the corresponding design changes
  • Author and owner of Engineering Test Specification
  • Lead the engineering discussions of Design Reviews Based on Test Results
  • Manage program timing for validation activities
  • Develop Validation Test Plans & implements test activities
  • Plan and manage test readiness activities, e.g., test procedure, fixtures, cables, software, etc.
  • Performs the more complex & specialized mechanical and/or electrical tests on product components or series of components.
  • Support the interpretation and analysis of internal and external validation requirements and translate into test system requirements
  • Develops special purpose instrumentation or lab test equipment.
  • Coach test technicians to ensure a complete understanding of test requirements
  • Lead vehicle test activities applicable to program requirements
  • Coordinate and exchange test findings with engineering personnel outside work group
  • Author documents on engineering analysis and empirical test results
  • Travel to customer at U.S. and global sites to support validation
  • Develop and improve test specifications to support all global labs

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required Skills:

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual & difficult
  • Understanding of engineering theory & principles of design
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Interest in test & validation activities in support of systems
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

     

    Preferred:

  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)
  • Familiarity with basic tools that apply to CAN networks
  • Familiarity with basic machine tools, sheet metal & fabrication
  • Training in college level theoretical and applied mechanics, vibrations, fluid dynamics, physics, metallurgy, electricity, thermodynamics, heat transfer and manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of GD&T and drawing standards
