    Work Schedule: We are a 24/7 medical center with various tours of duty and incumbent may be required to work off tours, nights, holidays and/or weekends to meet the mission of caring for the Veterans.

    Responsibilities

    Discharge a patient from outpatient care if it is determined that such care is no longer required.
    Order orthoses and prescribe orthotic therapy.
    Write prescriptions for medications or other items per the hospital formulary.
    Order diagnostic tests.
    Medical treatment of dermatoses.
    Obtain history and physical examination on patients.
    Routine foot care including nail trimming, surgical treatment of ingrown nails, removal of skin lesions, and steroid injection therapy.
    May participate in supervision and teaching in support of the podiatrist residency program, performs on call duties, and performs other directly related duties as assigned.
    Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
    Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.

    Qualifications
    The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.

    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Must be board certified or board eligible by an accredited board approved by the council of podiatric medical education.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Preferred: Board Certified or Board Eligible
    Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
