Process Technology Manager Job

The Process Technology Manager will be part of Arkema's Functional Additives business unit (BU) and report directly to the Director of Manufacturing, who is in close coordination with the Global Process Safety / Technology Director.  This role will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the Central Process Technology organization and will work closely with the manufacturing sites, R&D, pilot plant, business and supply chain organizations.  The position is based at Arkema's Corporate Offices and R&D Center in King of Prussia, PA, but will require frequent travel to assigned sites (domestic & Americas international) & occasional international (Europe &/or Asia) travel. 


The Process Technology Manager is directly responsible for Process Technology & Process Safety at 2 or 3 BU sites in the Americas.  The ideal candidate will develop process technology in support of new plant design, plant/process/quality improvements, and new product development.  He/she will work independently in evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering practices to meet project requirements. Lead new process development for capital projects. Process work requires interaction across corporate groups to set priorities, communicate results and achieve goals.


Specific job activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Health, Environment and Safety (HES): provide strong leadership on process safety.  Ensure investigations of process incidents and high potential near-misses are conducted effectively and in timely manner.  Provide technical assistance / support for PHAs & identify efficient and effective solutions to recommendations. Use knowledge of HES regulations in engineering work.  Ensure correct methodology is applied to technical activities in the plants (taproot RCA, LOPA PHA, etc.).
  • Supervision: direct site process activities to ensure full compliance of process safety practices and standards.  Organize / conduct field audits to verify proper operations.  Develop process related training programs and lead / participate in delivering training.  Own and manage the PS&PT roadmap for assigned sites & ensure project activity prioritization is aligned with available resources. 
  • Development: participate with global technical groups on developing standards, best practices, and process improvements.  Support business activity and develop solutions to a variety of technical challenges assuming the role of team leader in projects as needed.  Drive usage of ASAP gate process for project management and actively participate (Gatekeeper, Leader, Member).  Partner with commercial team & R&D on new products, business strategy & processes.  Champion process technology activities in key areas such as capacity, raw material and energy efficiency, waste reduction and safety.


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline is required; Master's degree preferred. 
  • Additional certifications, such as lean six sigma would be advantageous. 
  • 7+ years of industrial experience in process engineering, technology and safety is required. 
  • Well versed and experienced in the application of principles and theories of Chemical Engineering. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skill and ability is necessary. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with other technical staff from multiple disciplines. 
  • Must be capable of working independently and exercise sound judgment. 
  • Requires strategic thinking, people development skills and project management knowledge.
  • Direct experience with organic peroxides is highly desirable. 
  • Well versed in process analysis, alternatives analysis and preliminary economics analysis, process engineering tools and modeling software (such as Aspen).  Ability to interpret data to generate solutions.
