Sr Financial Accountant

Position Summary

The Senior Financial Accountant position is responsible for corporate accounting (e.g. preparation of journal entries and reconciliations) and provides financial analysis and support to management, including budgeting and forecasting.

 

Position Scope

This position will provide accounting support to the Finance team in the Houston office and in International locations.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years related accounting experience, external audit experience a plus
  • Experience in a multi-divisional and worldwide company environment
  • Solid experience using Microsoft Office and accounting systems knowledge, SAP experience a plus
  • Comfortable working in an environment that requires high attention to details, strong organizational skills, management of deadlines and ability to multitask
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively present information internally and externally
  • Ability to quickly comprehend and accurately analyze accounting and financial issues and make concrete recommendations
  • Experience in offshore drilling industry, SAP, and BPC preferred

 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Comply with Pacific Drilling Code of Conduct and supporting policies, standards and applicable process documentation.
  • Perform all work according to agreed expectations of both internal and external customers, focus on doing things right first time, every time and contribute actively to continual improvement activities.
  • Prepare, analyze and record monthly and quarterly journal entries
  • Support month-end close process at corporate office and coordinate with accounting staff at local operating offices
  • Prepare and/or review monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts, resolve any reconciling differences and investigate any unusual items
  • Prepare budget-to-actual expense variance analysis on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting planning process
  • Prepare audit work papers and compile support for internal and external auditors in a manner that maximizes their audit efficiency
  • Develop accounting procedure improvements by analyzing current written policies and documenting and implementing recommended changes
  • Reconcile cash accounts on a monthly basis for accuracy and ensure all transactions have sufficient supporting documentation
  • Assist operational accounting, financial reporting and tax as needed
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
