Job Summary

The Plant Operations Senior Technical Engineer Refrigeration is responsible for the operation, installation, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and documentation of the Building refrigeration systems. Provides advanced expertise in installation, maintaining and repair of capital equipment refrigeration systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently install, repair and or maintain capital building refrigeration systems and equipment. Provide regulatory documentation. Generate and augment preventative repair work orders and program. Maintain a specific replacement parts inventories. Train Facilities staff on repair and operation of refrigeration equipment and systems. Maintain a sequence of operation with operating parameters attached to each piece of equipment. Maintain a file inventory of manufacturers operating and maintenance manuals in the Building Systems designated room.
     
  • Independently provide service on ice machines, walk-in-boxes, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, chillers, low temperature freezers, split systems, Krous chillers, liebert systems and ultra-low temperature freezers.
     
  • Independently troubleshoot core plant and building refrigeration systems ice machine, walk-in-boxes, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, chillers, low temperature freezers, split systems, Krous chillers, liebert systems and ultra-low temperature freezers and other related equipment.
     
  • Independently repair refrigeration on ice machines, walk-in-boxes, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, chillers, low temperature freezers, split systems, Krous chillers, libert systems and ultra-low temperature freezers and other related equipment.
     
  • Routinely monitor and accurately document refrigeration equipment status. Take immediate action to correct variances and/or reports to Building Systems Operation Manager or Building Systems Shift Supervisor when appropriate.
     
  • Maintain equipment and related facilities in accordance with preventative maintenance standards and manufacturer’s standards. Monitor, direct, and report service vendors’ activity for conformance to service contracts. Maintain and review vendor time with sign in sheets. Monitor service contractors for work performance, billable hours, quality customer interface and job site management.
    • Provide prompt and courteous response to all service calls.
    • Respond to 90% of all service calls within fifteen (15) minutes of request. Call user within thirty (30) minutes if unable to respond. Confirm repair, adjustment, or need for follow-up service with requestor prior to leaving area. Provide service in a courteous, professional manner always.
    • Refrigeration service calls are assigned after basic troubleshooting is performed by the Building Systems Engineering staff.
       
  • Provide detailed communication both written and verbal to supervisor and co-workers about equipment and system abnormalities and changes.
    • Documents repairs/adjustments performed through accurate, complete entries in logbook, on work orders and on preventative maintenance forms. Communicate all pertinent equipment and operation information to Operations manager or Shift Supervisor (when appropriate) thereby providing for an accurate shift turnover.
    • Prepares and submits work orders for follow-up.
       
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Hospital and Department Emergency Response Procedures.
     
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment throughout the facility.

EPA 608 - Universal

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: High School/GED. Trade School diploma equivalent.

 

Required Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in installing, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of refrigeration systems.
  • Training and 5 years’ experience on ice machines, walk-in-boxes, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, chillers, low temperature freezers, split systems, Kraus chillers, liebert systems and ultra-low temperature freezers. Ability to read single line diagrams and schematics.
  •  5 years refrigeration.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Read blueprints, ladder diagrams, and wiring schematics.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctioning equipment.
  • Operate hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbally to customers and co-workers.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to act independently.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and ability to operate all: ice machines, walk-in-boxes, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, chillers, low temperature freezers, split systems, Kraus chillers, liebert systems and ultra-low temperature freezers. Install, troubleshoot and correct malfunctioning refrigeration systems.
